auto transmission in manual mode

Anyone know how safe or damaging using the auto transm. for any 1 series can be... IF continounsly used in the tiptronic or sport manual shift modes?

I once owned a 2000 3series, and i believe that was the reason for reducing the transm. longetivity.

Any info helps...calling all 1 series auto transm. users.
