Strange light on the dash 130i

Hello everyone,
I have light indicator on the dash board - turning on and off randomly while driving for the last 1k km. In the attachment you can find the light i am talking about in the red cirle (sorry for the bad picture, i tried to catch it while starting the engine as the last 2 days the the light is off). I also started having some problems with shifting 1-2 and 4-3, not shifting smoothly as before but quite hard. Read that this is a kind of common problem with the 1 series when it is cold. If some1 can share what cold means in this context in a matter of temperature will be appreciated. And i am wondering if there is a relation between this light indicator and the problem with shifting (as they started almost at the same time, first was the indicator light and then the shifting prob couple of weeks later). Check engine. Doesn't anyone read the manual anymore?

If you have a code reader look for any fault codes or take it to the dealer.

Check engine light is almost always emissions related. It could be as simple as a bad gas cap especially since it is intermittent. Do you notice if it correlates with you gassing up?
