I remember when I first ordered my PSS for the 135i tirerack asked whether I had them already on the front. They were reluctant to sell a set for the rears only. So if they ask, then let them know you already have them up front!

Seriously tho, smoked by a Volvo wagon ... I think finesse is what you need to be looking at. I really doubt the tyres would be the reason here unless it was snowing

Isn't that meant to be a real "no-no" to mix tyre types?

Slight OT... my stock fronts are going to want replacing early in 2013, but rears were refreshed just before I bought the car in May, and so I am now starting to plan and prioritise. I think I'm going to stay with RFT (yeah, yeah I know!) but was tossing up the Potenza S-001 3rd Gen, or some PZero's. Had assumed all four at once, but maybe that's not the only way to go?

Personally I don't think it's an issue. I would keep the same tyres on an axle but front to back I don't think is a real concern.

Obviously Michelin disagree tho and would like you to have all 4.

That's stage 2 of annoying you to prevent you from saving money. Good freight forwarders offer another service where they buy the goods on your behalf to avoid this issue. Keep investigating. There is no way a US based retailer can stop you, they can just put a few obstacles in your way.

Hi Guys,

TR stopped on sending Mich to OZ. we were given notice last week and funds returned on some of our orders. We are still able to get them in but there's a slight bump on fees as I have to use a different supplier. It is about $150 more per set.

A bit disappointing that it is getting more and more difficult to bring stuff in.

I just got off the phone getting a couple of prices for 225/35/19 Michelin Pilot Super Sport and there prices are $620 each tyre in Brisbane, love to but tyres fron Australia but at these prices no way
Tirerack and others in USA $249us each plus $285 shipping of 2 tyres
$783us against $1240 in Australia for 2 tyres.

Vans i don't know how close you can get to those prices in the US can you give us a indication of price.

How long is the usual email turn-around from Gill as I haven't had a response in a couple of days? Seems others have though - Perhaps existing customers only....

Alright guys.

You can still get Michelins from tirerack. As has been suggested before, different salesmen will advise of different arrangements shipping to Australia.

I tried 2 salesman. The first said no go with Michelins to Australia. The second, I received no such advice.

I used salesman Gill. I know there has been an email address for Gill published in this thread, but I decided not to go that route. I didn't want to be waiting around for email replies so I rang him direct and in my experience it's beneficial for international guys to actually hear your voice. Emails can always be answered later, but the phone has to be answered almost right away.

I waited till about now, 10:30pm AEST which is 8:30am US Eastern Time. Tirerack opens for business at 8:00am. I rang direct through to Gill. The number to dial Gill direct is 0011 1 574-287-2345. Enter Gill's extension number which is 620 when prompted by the automated message. Don't expect to get through first time as the salesman seem pretty busy...especially Gill. I think I rang 6 or 7 times with a couple minute break in between until I got through to Gill. Nice guy and the purchase for the Michelins went through no problems.

I have purchased and have the tracking no.'s for 2 purchases. One for 2 x 235/35/19 Michelin PSS and one for 2 x 275/30/19 Michelin PSS. One order is in Alexandria right now the other is in transit from Oakland, CA as we speak.

EDIT: I PURCHASED THESE LAST WEEK ON TUE 28/09/2012

The reason for splitting the shipment was the combined total for the 4 tyres was $1164.00. It is close to the $1000 threshold and may or may not have gone through without attracting the extra duties. I decided to play it safe and split the shipment into 2. It cost a couple of hundred dollars extra that way, but I justified it on the fact that the GST alone on the combined shipment would be $164 anyway if I was lucky and that was the only charge.

So... at this point in time it seems that there is no restriction on any particular tyre being shipped from TireRack to Australia. With the conflicting salesman advice we have been receiving, who knows how much longer this arrangement will last.

May I suggest, that if you need tyres now and you want to purchase from tirerack or you think you might need tyres in the near future, I would get in now just to be safe.
