reapplying badge?

I've seen a lot of posts on removing badges but I'm sort of curious as to what you'd use to reapply a badge.

What kind of tape or adhesive does the manufacturer use that would make that strong yet removable bond? I wouldn't want to try to reapply a badge with some whimpier double stick tape only to have it fall off when I'm washing my car, haha.

Your best bet would just be to buy another badge I would assume.

I thought badges were a push pin design, where you pop it in and it sorta locks itself, things have changed I assume?

sorry, I am refering to the model # (135i characters)... each letter is held on with some sort of foam and adhesive. I've seen a lot of people recommend 3m mounting tape but that doesn't seem like a decent solution at all.

Anyone know what kind of adhesive is used? It's not something exclusive to BMW, it's glue. I shouldn't have to buy new characters just for the adhesive on the back, haha

I have debadged and re-applied badges b4. Autozone sells 3M two sided door trim foam tape. It takes time to trim around the numbers with an exacto, and make sure they are straight. I used painters blue masking tape to make a straight line, then re-applied the numbers/letters. Easy but takes time.

If you plan on reapplying the badge later you should make a template before you remove them. Lining them up perfectly is extremely difficult without one.
