One reason Honda's have more performance parts available is there are a lot more Hondas. There are probably also more Honda drivers who are willing to risk putting performance parts on their ride.

I remember when 1hp per cubic inch was a pretty hot motor. Now we have production cars with more than 2 hp per cubic inch and 100 hp (or more) per liter (with turbo). 15 second quarter miles in V6 family sedans. Nice time to drive.

My car is at 123 hp/l, NA. More soon, hopefully!

So as my update, I was in Italy last week and visited Supersprint in person. I made a thread on it here:

Super Sprint headers are really worth the price difference. The fitment speaks for itself.

Yup. Better than stock seems like a silly statement, but it's really the case.

Bumping this up.

How difficult is it to access all the bolts to the head?

Most of them are pretty accessible without moving anything. If i recall i had to remove a small bracket to get to some of the bank 2 nuts.

I did remove all of the cowl filter/plastic stuff just to get a little more room to work with.

The mechanic that installed them later on was able to get to everything without removing anything except for the underbody plastic. He said it was easily accessible, but he was comparing it to the f16's he worked on in the military.. so there's that.

Also, remove the bracket that hold the mids up into place, you'll need some wiggle room on the mid pipes in order to wiggle the header studs out of the mid pipes.

Super easy, especially compared to other BMWs(ie pulling the engine on the E60 M5). As 631 mentioned, you do need to remove the underbody panels, and you will need to reroute the O2 sensor lines a bit. Hardest part is some mild hand contortion and making sure you torque them down properly with the new gaskets.

Cool. Not as much as a PITA like an E36?

Not at all. I'd say it's probably the easier BMW for header installs. Loads of working room.

I had one nut that was frozen on the stud. It took the stud out of the block but it went back in with no issues.

I also snapped one stud which was user error obviously.

There are no bolts aside from the header to mid pipes connection.

Did you use penetrating oil before you started?

I did, surprisingly. I soaked it down the day before i began to work on it. One of the stock header studs that connects to the mid pipe completely snapped too.. I guess driving it through a couple winters really seized them together

The snapped stud was due to me crushing the gaskets incorrectly. Cylinder's 1 and 2 gaskets weren't crushed correctly and i had an exhaust leak when i first started it, i backed off all the nuts a bit and re torqued them to try and reseat it, but i snapped off a stud between cylinder 1 and 2. It ran fine and had no issues other than a REALLY mean exhaust leak when cold. When it heated up it went away but my car sounding like a tractor was embarrassing so i brought it to a family friends shop who fixed the busted stud, but then mixed up my o2 sensors.. And that's how that drama started.

It doesn't matter if you break those, you are replacing them and the Supersprint units don't use studs.

Potentially a stupid question here but what do you mean the SS doesn't use those studs? I was planning on replacing manifold studs during my header install.
