Reground custom Camshafts?
When I emailed Schrick, they didn't seem interested at all in making a N52 specific cams.

Are Sunbelt cams any good? Wonder if they'd be interested..

Yup, ~$640 shipped to the US. I looked into that as well. Also adds a drain bolt!

Part number is 33-879-188, same for 125i, 128i, 130i, and 135i.

They weren't great in my E36 days. I remember a number of people having engine issues. That said, that could also have been from people getting very adventurous with the redline.

Which, I should note, is much less than the $1k VAC wants for their diff cover.

Sorry, but I need a link. I can't locate it on either the Quaife UK or Quaife USA (which shows nothing for BMW except in the downloadable PDF) web site.

Either Quaife website is pretty weak. Birds is definitely the place to go for application information.

Thanks, guys.
I found the Birds-developed cover:

Series : 1 Series (E81/E87)
Make : BMW
Description : Sport Final Drive Cooler 188l
Application : All with rear cover 33-11-7-518-404
Retail price : £346
Fitted price : £518

(346.00 GBP =566.586 USD
British Pound↔US Dollar
1 GBP = 1.63753 USD 1 USD = 0.610675 GBP
Mid-market rates: 2013-12-05 00:46 UTC)

A downright bargain.

Customs is pretty minor. I think I might have paid $10 or so on the SS muffler?

I've had some surprising due-bills for stuff I've ordered for my Healey. Point being it all adds up to less than VAC. Or, perhaps, my financial perspective has changed as I've gotten older. What's an extra hundred or two when I'm considering a $570 differential cover.

VAC has been nothing but disappointments to me, so the fact the Quaife cover is cheaper is just icing on the cake.

Are any of your engine mods compatible with an N51 (the SULEV) engine?

BTW, the muffler looks great. The lift looks really great.

Headers. You already have the DISA manifold.

Just saw you mod list there, fantastic stuff. Your thoughts on the Quaife and Mason bar?

Is there anything documented with AA working successfully with N51 engines?

Thanks. I was responsible for that Quaife review last week I saw you on. I'll get back to you once i get to the track and can hammer on it a bit.

I'll generate a review of the Mason bar. If you get it and have camber plates make sure you get the option for the firewall bars as it makes adjustment a lot easier.

In regard to the headers. I see something on turner
http://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-42...e-headers.aspx
can these be used with stock cats? Are these race only? That is, can I still pass emissions?
thanks!

That's the plan, but it is secondary to the Quaife for me. I think the bar is worth it for access to my camber plates alone. Mason clearly has nothing but the best reputation for making actual bars as opposed to the usual hinged bling that most make.

So from the top:

Those are the headers that I have. When you install them you will removing the primary cats as they are located on our stock collectors. That being said, on US spec cars we also have our secondary cats in section one of the mid pipe. If you get the Evolve tune for Supersprint headers where they turn down(not off which would result in an error) the 02 sensors, you will pass in plug OBDII emissions control. Thanks to our secondaries, you will also pass the sniffer test. Not to mention you will still have a car that smells nice to daily drive.

All of this I have tested personally. Also, get them coated by Swain Tech.
