yeah i got oiled, the dyno numbers where probably without the scoops, but they're something worth getting since it helps draw in cool air to the intake.

yeah, just worried about water intake in rainy seattle..........

but, it says you can clean the filters, how do you do that?

I would do the oiled if you are doing the intake. The Dry will be easier to maintain and has slightly better filtration but the oiled is freer flowing.

i've drivin through heavy rain and even other members with air scoops and no one has had any problems with water going up to the intake filters. yes you can clean the filters, the intake comes with a restoring kit so you can clean and re-oil your filters.

what is involved in maintenance? just cleaning and thats it? how often does that need to be done?

yeah you clean the filters with the provided cleaning agent then re-oil them with the provided oiling agent and thats it. as for how often this is directly from aFe:

"Normal highway driving should give 30,000 to 50,000 plus miles between cleanings of an aFe filter. However, in the time period that you would have replaced 3 paper filters, you should inspect your aFe filter to determine if it needs cleaning. For example, if you live in an extremely high dust area and
replaced your paper filter every 3,000 miles, you should examine your aFe filter every 9,000 miles."

i haven't actually got around to cleaning mine yet so i can't tell you first hand if its hard or easy but the directions are pretty straight forward and i've cleaned and re-oiled other intake filters and i can tell you that it was easy, there's nothing special about aFe filters that would make it harder so my guess is that it's easy.

Haven't put enough miles on my aFe DCI to clean it yet but from my E46, cleaning took 15-20 minutes.

So, those are some hard to believe gains from just an intake. Are they basically just leaning the engine out? How does this affect the car with a JB3 map? How are the AFRs affected?

I guess I'm gun-shy of intakes because on my past 3 turbo Subarus, they were a definite big no-no. They actually caused very dangerous lean issues and resulted in blown motors for many folks. Is this not the case with the 135's?

35 ft. lbs of torque from an intake? That is well over a 10% increase from just an intake?

Something sounds fishy, or too good to be true.

The scoops are metal so they are a solid mount in the grill area.

For the intake, the JB3 system has various maps depending on what mods you have on the car. I suggest taking it to a map that accounts for the increased intake air flow. With that said, your factory ECU is designed to adapt to increased air flow and has the ability to adjust A:F ratios with the intake. You will need to allow the car 100-200 miles to adapt to the increased air flow before you will see substantial gains.

aFe does 10 dyno tests on all of their systems. They take the lowest of these runs and publishes those numbers to be on the conservative side.
