Military Sales Program info

Hey,

First time poster here. I am strongly considering getting myself a serious upgrade and ordering an 09 135i the next time I deploy overseas. I am hoping some you that have used the Military Sales Program can share some advice. Basically I am looking for any opinions, advice or pitfalls to watch out for. Did any of you find any difference in price between Superior and Pentagon? And what was your experience with sales and import tax when you brought it back stateside?

If it helps the discussion, I will most likely be on a 4 month or so trip. I can make it to Germany for cheap so I will consider ED if there is any tax advantage to registering in Germany for a week, putting some miles on her, and then shipping her home.

Late
Swade

P.S. For those of you over in the desert make sure to keep yourself safe, your buddies safe, get the job done, and get your asses home.

swadeness im in the middle of purchasing a 2009 128i so far so good just waiting on prices to come out. I could be wrong but there should be no price difference between the two programs. The reps are very friendly and fast in responding to any of your questions. They give you a list of state to state sales tax list florida is 6% if you have any more questions let me know.I'm sure some more military guys who have been through this already can help you also.

I'm also in the process of ordering. Waiting for the freakin 09 prices to come out already, so I can make up my mind on options. I've placed my order through Superiormsp. Seems to be a pretty good all around deal for military. Most of the companies are guaranteeing to cover anything over a 2-3% increase if ordered before the 09 pricing comes out, so it may be beneficial to order sooner rather than later.

I've been waiting on the 09 prices too. Its good to know that they will cover anything over a 3% increase, what if its less than that? Will they give you the actual new MSP price?

I bought mine through Pentagon Car Sales but I'm stationed overseas but I know they do a lot of sales to people down range. I got a great deal the the sales person I worked with was Awesome...if you want I can get you their contact info. No complaints and plenty of praise for Pentagon!

Same here. Bought through superiormsp and service was excellent. Only downside (besides my car being wrecked upon arrival...long story) is the wait is considerably longer as we are not considered high priority. Otherwise you can't beat the deal you get at all!

Just what ever you do avoid Bavarian Motor Cars military sales. I have my car (finally) but the process was not anything near as smooth as it should have been.

I'm stationed in Japan and have been trying to contact Unilife BMW for several weeks and they have yet to respond. I had originally contacted PentagonBMW, but they refered me to Unilife due to my location. Yesterday I emailed Superior after reading this thread and I received a response last night. I won't be ready to get my 1 for another year, but I already appreciate the rapid response from Superior.

Thanks for the info guys.

I have emailed Superior and Pentagon and gotten quick responses from both. Overall it sounds like the MSP is the best deal available on a new BMW. Have any of you directly compared prices/options between Pentagon and Superior?

I know their prices are supposed to be the same, but it would be good to see a side by side comparison. I would do it myself but am I am not currently deployed so I can't get the pricing.

I too purchased my 135 through a MSP (Superior) and I will agree it is a wait (around 4 months) so if you are attempting to figure your time frame to take delivery of the automobile, this may help. I will also remind you to remember to figure in state and residential taxes into your equations. You have to arrange payment in full to take delivery. I used USAA, very easy on the internet but have access to a digital sender available (no fax machines in theatre) if at all possible. Chum up to the IT folks, they may be your best friends during this process. Last ask questions (emails) and possibly obtain references. Good luck, stay safe!

I ordered through Park Lane BMW here in the UK. I'm looking at a 3 month waiting period (1 down, 2 to go!), And of course I'm also waiting for the '09 prices to come out like everyone else! As far as taxes, I'm hoping to drive the car a few thousand miles here in the UK, allowing me to ship it back to the US taxfree, so we'll see...

could you elaborate a little on the taxfree? Am I correct in assuming you are saying that if the car arrives in the states with XXX amount of miles it is considered used? Therefore no sales tax? How many miles do you need to have on the car before the states (some of them) consider it used? I have heard a little bit about this but have not been able to track down much info.

typically they want at least 500 miles and they want a copy of your orders placed inside the car when shipped to help prove you took posession before shipping the car...that is what we are told here and with the number of new BMWs on base purchased through our local Pentagon dealer, I've never heard anyone say that this didn't work...haven't done it personally so I can't say with 100% certainty

The mileage number really depends on the port. The only hard number is you must have been deployed or stationed overseas >140 days to get out of the import duty.

anybody that went through MSP wanna give a quick run down of how things went, payment wise. When they paid, any hidden costs? I'm trying to figure out this import duty tax...does that apply to us? Is it due with payment or when we register? I plan to take possession from a dealership in Kansas...Thanks for the insight.

I believe the import tax is included in the $875 delivery charge. This charge is the same for the MSP and buying a BMW through a stateside dealer. At least that is what Angela from Superior Motors told me.

I am really curious to hear about peoples experience with state sales tax when registering. I have picked up little bits and pieces of info about certain states not charging military, considering it used if it has more than XXXX miles, not charging if its been previously registered etc. Unfortunately getting actual facts has been difficult. Anybody want to share their experiences or knowledge on this?

Thanks
Swade
