JB4

I had a JB4 installed. 20 minutes later, my charge pipe broke. I installed a new charge pipe. Now, I can only run the car without problems in Map 0. If I change to Map 1 or 5 it is unstable and will stall out on me or an error light will come up.

I look under the hood and notice two connectors are not connected. Is it supposed to look like this, or is something on my JB4 disconnected?

That's the MAP connector.

IT DEFINITELY NEEDS TO BE CONNECTED!

The picture below is above and behind the airbox. The Map Sensor is a little difficult to get to - you have to lift some shrouding out of the way.

Whats currently plugged in? The only thing that should go there is the MAP sensor. Without it your car will run horribly.

A plug with a yellow and green wire is currently plugged in there. The car runs fine on map 0, but not on any other map.

I would look at the install instructions from burger tuning, they have it on their webpage I believe. shouldn't be too hard to trace it back and see what is in the wrong place. install initially should only be 1-2 hrs anyways

Taking the car to Buckhead Imports on Tuesday. Hopefully they'll be able to see what needs to be done with the JB4.

How much better would the car run with an upgraded downpipe? Specifically the AR Design 4" Hi-Flo™ Catless Downpipe. I'm considering getting one, since I'm taking my car to a shop next week anyways.

**on second thought, probably just gonna get the JB4 running properly before I upgrade the downpipe. I'm sure I'll see a significant improvement from stock engine + intake to JB4 + charge pipe + intake. Leave the downpipe to another day.

I attached the Burger installation guide to my previous post.

The connector that you have loose is a "passthrough" connector.

You unplug the map connector from the socket in the engine bay.

You will find that one of the pair you have loose is an exact match. Plug it in in place of the one you have just unplugged.

Then examine the remaining connector. You will find that it is the female half of this connector. plug the original connector into it.

You have now connected the JB4 in line with the existing BMW MAP sensor.

This is why it's known as a piggy-back tune.

I am really struggling to unplug the stock connector and am afraid I am going to damage the stock connector. Is there something I can do to make it come out easier?

I'm beginning to think maybe you shouldn't be doing this yourself. You mentioned you were taking it to a mechanic on Tuesday?Might be best to wait til then...

I figured out how to unplug the stock male connector and replace it with the JB4's male connector and fit the stock male in the JB4 female. Car now runs great in Map 5. Very fast and responsive.

While driving fast, the gas tank meter ticks down to 0 gas remaining even though the car has half a tank of gas in it. Has anyone else experienced this? Does this indicate something is wrong with the JB4 or is it just a superficial problem with the gas tank indicator?

Glad you got it working. Now go do LOTS of reading so that you know exactly what you're messing with if/when you change any of the settings.

How did you grey out the side of your lights like that? How much did it cost?

They're Euro lights. They're standard everywhere except the US where you have to have amber corners.

With all due respect, you seem like a nice guy but you really need to go to the pages like the BMW site the guys are recommending to get up to speed with the things you are trying to do.

You can get lots of input about an issue on a forum & some is very good. Unfortunately some is also pretty bad & you need some background to try to separate the two.

Way too much stuff is just multi repeated urban legend by guys who have not actually done what they are talking about. The best approach it to read up, from a tech source like BMS, then ask questions about what you don’t understand then look at the answers to see if they are logical & make sense.
