They will and they better be. I have a feeling BMW has weight saving techniques they are saving for the next generation vehicle that they can't or aren't willing to splurge on outgoing models.

From the spec thread, these can't both be right...
Unladen Weight DIN: 1M: 1495 kg 135i: 1455 kg Weight US: 1M: 3296 lbs 135i: 3373 lbs So the 1M is 40 kg (88 lbs) heavier than the 135i in europe, but 77 lbs lighter in the US? One of these "preliminary" numbers is well off...

Logic sais 1M can't be lighter. extra radiator, heavier wheels/tires, brakes and muffler. More sheet metal and M3 strut brace.
It does have a lighter roof though. |

...and hollow swaybars, and a lighter dual-mass flywheel, and alu subframes, etc. I also suspect the muffler might be lighter. I worry that you're correct, however...

Also 1M has metal roof as standard and not moonroof which is an additional saving as mentioned in the press release. |

19" wheels are heavier than 18". Unless the 19s are forged, they might be lighter. I allready said the roof is lighter in the 1M. |

The big question is how does the 1M manage to be 46 lbs. heaver than the E46 M3 despite being a more compact car, and having an aluminum block engine?

I suspect 8 airbags, a drive train rated for 100 more foot pounds of torque and 1.4" larger brake rotors pretty much did the trick...
