Service light is still on! I replaced new reverse light bulbs.

Hi guys,

After I replaced new reverse light bulbs, the service light came on. I've been trying to turn it off but with no success

Does anyone have the same issue?

Did you use the same bulbs? Maybe it's not recognizing the bulbs?

I didn't use the same bulb.
I ordered the AGT 921 3W CREE Car Reverse Backup LED Light Bulb T10.

That could possibly be why. I know there are some people who has had issues when using LED bulbs opposed to halogens. Not for reverse lights specifically, but for angel eyes.

So, there is no way to solve my issue beside putting the stocks reverse bulbs back on?

I'm sure there's a way but I'm not experienced in this, so I'm not entirely sure. Hope someone else can chime in here!

I would think you would need to add a ballast to the LED bulb so the car recognises it as a regular bulb.

Or just put the stock ones back in.

I agree with mightymouse. Usually there's some other component necessary to eliminate fault codes or warning lamps. Same goes for upgrading to HID's for fog lights etc.

The LED provides a lot less resistance (or requires less power) than the stock bulb. Therefore the system thinks that there's a bulb out. Thus, you need to add a resistor to add load. So you either need to add an in-line resistor, or buy an LED bulb specifically for these types of cars.

CANBUS - that's the name of it. Buy LED bulbs that are CANBUS compatible.

For example (I didn't check to see if this is the exact bulb you'd buy)

Thanks 135ivert!
It makes sense. I'm going to order the CANBUS for my car. I hope they have the right canbus for my car.

There is a way to read the bulb out codes - and the car will tell you which (light) bulb is out!

When the fault symbol is showing press the end of the OBC stalk for a few seconds and a code will show.

Here is a chart with some of the lamp codes....

This post might also be of interest. Looks like the rear light cluster and/or footwell control module can be also the cause of false warnings.

Dackelone@ I was trying to do that, but the code doesn't come up.

Probably, it works only for 3 series.

Thank you anyways!

You can code out bulb check, or use error free cree leds with built in resistors.

Totally works for 1 series. When the little lightbulb shows up on your cluster, hold the BC, and the code should show up. That's how it worked for me at least.
