Front License Plates...

Hey guys, as everyone who lives in our areas knows, front license plates are required. I've been having a hard time finding a thread on what I was wondering about, so I decided to take the initiative and start one. How many of you guys rep the front license plate / don't ? If you do, which setup do you favor? Brackets? Drilled holes? I just hate the look of these gold license plates, and was wondering if I could get away with just the rear. Post up on the poll, and give your opinions. Thanks.

Wasn't running a front plate for about 2 years and just paid the tickets I would get which was like once a year. Then this year got 2 in one month and gave up. Best advice is get a custom plate that u like, that way you won't be so pissed about having a front plate lol. And u don't have to have the ugly mustard one

Yeah, can you help me out with that? Can I get the old blue NY plate? Will a frame do the trick? Not sure on this one...

I don't know about the northeast, but in WA, front license plates are required, but it's also acceptable if you just have a sticker that looks like your license plate (as long as all the dates and stickers match) on the front bumper.

I know a lot of people that did it and they haven't gotten a single ticket so far.

What do you need help with? Just go to the DMV website and you'll see how to order a personalized plate from there. It's really easy. You can choose a BMWCCA plate which is good looking, or a sports team, etc.

NYS will change the plate in 2 years anyway to squeeze us for more $$. I agree just get one of the ten billion theme plates that nys offers from the dmv website. http://dmv.ny.gov/

There is a link on the right side of the home page that says "custom plates," click on it and you can see all of your options. This is the link to the BMW plates First1 was talking about:

you can always tow hook mount it so you don't have to drill into your bumper

I live in Texas. It has always been a two plate state. As of September 1, 2013 it you can be given a citation not to exceed $200. Before there was no penalty for vehicles that did not have the two required plates. Officers could not issue citations to vehicles that were not equipped with two license plates; therefore, stops that were made for failure to have two license plates could be challenged in court.

I have never ran front plates on my cars since I started driving in 2003. I have been pulled over three times.
Once in an SRT4 and I told the officer a plate would obstruct the air to my FMIC. He gave me a written warning.
Second time I was in my Audi S4. I got a verbal warning. The next week I ordered a custom European plate that said S4-Sammy that fit the bumper like its supposed to. I never had any issues with that other than a look of confusion one time when stopped for speeding.
Third was in my 135i. I just told the officer I had just got the car and planned to get a bracket soon....never got the bracket in the two years I had it.
I just bought a Porsche and I'm not going to be putting a front plate on it. I think that would be blasphemy.

it's pretty divided with people i know. I run it simply so it's not an excuse for a cop to pull me over. I don't want to give them any additional reasons to scope me out

edit: +1 for CCA plate and tow hook mount.

Here in PA we dont need one. as soon as i got the car back in the states i couldn't wait to get the front plate off. not sure what i would do if i had to have one on the front. i would do some research and call the DMV and state police and see if their is something in writing saying it has to be the metal plate or like suggested before, can it be a sticker. Then you could get a vinyl done of the plate and have it on the bumper. Or get creative and put it where ever. I'd make sure you know what the law says about it. Might just say plate must be visible from front of vehicle. worth looking into. If your looking for a mount just search these forums. There's probably 10+ threads on different types of mounts.

I have a hideaway license plate bracket. You can't tell the plate is there.

In NJ it comes in ebbs and flows, guess it depends how much pressure there is on police to meet their quotes. There was a time I went an entire year without hassle and then the following year I got nailed twice at checkpoints.

631, how is it in NY? I just moved to Westchester and currently running no plate. Are Westchester and NYC cops that anal? Is it true they can slap you with a no plate ticket even if your car is just parked on the street?

OP - do a little research but you can make a custom plate bracket using rare earth magnets, simply pull on/off whenever you want.
