1. It didn't win the Cars guide car of the year - lost out to Ford, the turbo model of course...
http://www.news.com.au/adelaidenow/s...5-2682,00.html 2. Although it won the sports category, it didn't win the o/a award for Drive' best car of the year either - that went to the new Honda Accord Seppo...sorry guys, but lost the link on this one... There are others but if I go on, I have a feeling I'll be doing this LOL |

awards are gravy. you know what i think the 135 has actually done which is noteworthy? it has created a template for how manufacturers, in this new age of vehicle consumerism, can create volume sellers that are brilliant machines by scaling down around established motive technology to maximize aggregate revenue across total sales rather than following the traditional paradigm of scaling up around it to maximize profit per unit
sold. |

The main winning factor in just about every comparo I've read up on the 135i is its price point, no doubt in its 'prestige' class it is excellent value for money... |

Why do you reckon the '5' for Security? Something I don't know?

Wondered the same thing myself. The security ratings are based on IAGs insurance-related points for security. I don't know what else you need in addition to immobiliser, security coded keyfob and datadots in order to score more highly??? Probably a standard alarm would do it.

The 135i has backed up it's win in 2008 with the "Best Sports Car 2009" in Australia's Best Cars awards, chosen by the Australian Automobile Association (ie NRMA, RACV, RACQ, etc). The full set of sports car results are available here. Note that there was a price cap of $80k and yet the 135i still managed to win. Second was the Golf R32 and third was the WRX STi.
The 135i won on the basis of achieving the best score in "On the Road" (Performance, Ride, Handling, Braking, Smoothness) and "Design & Function" (Safety, Security, Environment, Comfort, Ergonomics, Build Quality) despite having finishing 13th in terms of "Value for Money" (Pricing, Depreciation, Running costs, Fuel consumption, Warranty, Standard features). The 135i scored 3rd best (Evo X 1st, WRX STI 2nd) in the "Critical" factors of Performance, Handling, Braking, Safety, Security and Environment, and 1st in the "Highly Important" factors of Standard features, Comfort, Ergonomics, and Build quality (R32 2nd, FPV GT 3rd).
