I've got 94K on my '08 and I decided to go ahead and replace the battery. But the dealer charged me $507 when all was said and done! AND ( a bit of ranting to follow) who ever moved my car in and out of the service bay decided my seat position didn't fit his particular needs and moved every possible angle including the steering wheel! I hate going to the dealer. Ok, I feel better now.

It seems it would be wise to ask a dealership (stealership?) for a price before authorizing the work. The local dealership was adverstising less than $200 around Christmas time.

That's reasonable if it's $200. Your right, you should always check first on price. Or call a few dealerships, if you have some few near you.

Im still on my original OEM. 08 135i with almost 60K. Still on my original water pump, too, although Im thinking of proactively switching out both if I decide to keep it. Im at the m235i/m2 crossroads right now.

I just checked with my dealer on a battery price since my starter just took a dump.

$417 for the battery installed at my dealer. They checked it and a new battery puts out 12.6 volts. Mine was putting out 12.2 volts. Service advisor said I had at least another year left on my battery.

I'll check with my independent shop on their price.

Early 2010, starting to get the battery warning light here and there.

Still, $150 for a new OE replacement isn't bad.

I have a 2010. Are you guys experiencing longer than usual starting time/cranking in the winter? I was tempted to replace the battery because I did not want my wife to potentially become stranded.

2009 with 65k. My car was in storage last winter and the battery was totally dead for weeks. Charged with no problems and still works fine.

I'll update because its been a year. My car has 102 thousand miles on it and the battery still starts the car like a champ. June 08 build. It somehow survived the polar vortex in Syracuse (we hit -20 a few times (very cold for upstate NY).

I started the car yesterday after it sat for over a week. The brake pads were rusted to the rotors but the car cranked perfectly.

Bought an 09 in Nov 08. Nearing 100k miles. Original battery is good but I saw my first battery fault code last week. No problem with running or starting yet but planning to replace the battery soon.

Ok, read this entire thread and several others. Still have not found a solid DIY for replacing the battery including registering/coding. I got myself a brand new OEM battery (using the VIN, part #, etc. through a friend who works at the dealer) and I'm ready to install. Have any of you guys done it? I'm assuming I need to buy a OBDII cable and software, but obviously I want to minimize the cost. The battery cost me just over $200 with employee discount. If I can get the rest of the necessary equipment and get away with spending a total of $300 or so I am happy. Please comment if you have done it and it worked!

If you are replacing with the same type/AH battery no coding is necessary.

I thought that was the case but I keep reading that there are no exceptions to the coding/registering. Do you know from experience?
