First MOT

My 1M is 3 years old this month and therefore needs it first annual Ministry of Transport or MOT test. I arranged for my local BMW dealer to do this and, surprisingly, all was not well.

An advisory was that there was wear in a ball joint which I was a bit surprised at only 49,000 miles. It is still, just, under warranty so it will be replaced by BMW and have a full alignment check free of charge afterwards.

Anyone else have these fail?

You should distinguish wear -- which is normal and to be expected -- from failure.

Depending on usage and the condition of the roads that you regularly drive, a worn ball joint is not at all irregular at 49,000 miles.
