Anyone Considering A Blowoff Valve for their 135i?

I will have a blowoff valve installed on my 135i. Just curious as to if anyone else will do the same?

Here a video with sound of a 335i with a blowoff valve.

i'd stick it at the bottom of my list of things to do to my 135i .. but i don't see why not more "ooh's & ahhh's" then functionality in my book.

I get annoyed quite easily. As long as its not too obnoxious I'd consider one.

The BMW manuals I have seen call the stock valves Blow-off, but arent they really diverter valves? Unless I completely misinterpreted the diagram, the valves redirect the air back into the intake. If you put a blow off valve on a car that is made for a diverter valve it can really affect the way the car runs.

You have got to be kidding me? BOVs are by far the most annoying modification you can make for your car. Live it for the ricers.

I believe these cars have diverter valves. If that is the case, a BOV would be a bad investment for this car. Considering the 335i has already have fueling issues.

You may find the need to replace the stock DV. The Bosch DV on VW/Audi 1.8T's had a high failure rate. I'm sure there will be some nice replacements available from Forge or Bailey.

Yes, Im sure the BMW DV is much better since it has had more time to research. Forge does make pretty good equipment. It is not healthy to run a BOV on cars that have a DV before the MAF. If the MAF is before the DV then your in good shape, because air/fuel will be read then bleed off or diverted back to the IM. With a BOV before the MAF, all of the charged air with fuel will be blown out of the system forcing the car to change its air fuel mix. God only knows how sensitive these bimmers are, they will probably throw a code, if not youre still going to mess with the fuel mix.

Keep in mind that the N54 uses direct injection - so no fuel upstream of the cylinder head. : -)

Ok, thanks.

I understand the whole Direct Injection, but what I dont understand is how zero mixed air makes it into the intake manifold. that would mean theres no need for a MAF or DV if all the fuel stays and is burned in the cylinder.

You still need a Mass Airflow Sensor but normally with a turbo the fuel is injected before the intake valves (hell, in my old Mustang the turbo sucked fuel and air from the carb - and in the old Maserati Biturbos they had pressurized carbs (those cars caught on fire frequently due to improper sealing of the plenum ; -)). With direct injection there is no fuel at any point before the cylinder head - just air.

Wow.. Somebody else remembers that, too. They were fun cars though if you could put up with the possible fire issue.

R&T did a great comparison of the 325e and Biturbo in '84. The fire issue is one of the reasons that I chose a 325e.

Isn't that part of the definition of an American, although I'm sure that it's not unique to the US. It's probably a very "Human Thing".

I think you may have this backwards. If the stock diverter valve recirculates air back between the MAF sensor and the turbo (DV After the MAF) you should not use a Blow off valve. This is because you are releasing pre-metered air and will cause your engine to run rich.
