Have you got the last 7 digits of your VIN (production number) yet?
Do you know what status your car is?

For the 1M guys.

Does your VIN star with WBA or WBS?
Is the 4th letter of your VIN a 'U'?
Is the 6th number of your VIN a 4?
Is the 7th number of your VIN a 2?
Is the 10th letter of your VIN a C?
Is the 11th letter of your VIN a V?

As far as I'm aware the above letters and numbers should be standard in all Australian 1M VIN's.

Just trying to get my head around how the VIN is put together and what each letter/number means.
I would appreciate if someone could take the time to have a look at their 1M and get back to me.

Cheers

Thanks Ian

I would appreciate if someone else could verify the first 10 digits as well by having a quick look at their VIN.
There is no need for the last 7 digits, I am only trying to get my head around the first 10.

As far as I'm aware it should be as follows.

Digit 1 - Country of origin (the W stands for Germany)
Digit 2-3 - Designates the cars manufacturer (BS designates BMW Motorsport)
Digit 4-7 - Designates the model code (UR92: The 'U' is for a 1 Series, the 'R' and '9' is part of the model designation but I don't know what, and the '2' means it's an Australian vehicle)
Digit 8? - Designates the restraint system identifier (type of seatbelt/airbag system in the car)
Digit 9? - Designates the 'check digit' which is determined by an algorithm of your VIN
Digit 10 - Designates the model year identifier (in the 1M's case it should only be 'B' for 2011 or 'C' for 2012 produced cars)
Digit 11 - Designates the BMW Plant the vehicle was manufactured in (In all 1M's this will be a 'V' which is the Leipzig Plant)
Digit 12-17 - Designates the Sequential Production Number / Chassis Number.

So minus a few gaps this is how an Australian 1M VIN should read:

W BS UR92 _ _ B/C V XXXXXX

If someone could check this understanding against their own that would be great, I hope how I've understood it is correct, but I could be way off.

Thanks

It is WBSUR920x0VSxxxxx

the x in the first 10 is a check digit and I have an excel file I made up to work that out.

Do a google/search - WBS is BMW M

I can't remember off the top of my head what the other number stands for.

How did you know what algorithm to apply to generate the 'check digit' correctly?

Are you sure that the '0' you have quoted immediately befor the 'V' is not infact a 'C'?

Anyone else care to share the first 10 digits of their VIN to help verify the correct Australian sequence.

Just checked my 125i and 135i vin, and the 10th digit are all 0. Could be an Australian Standard thing.

Put my deposit down, signed the paperwork and was told that this will be the last 1M to be delivered in Aus. Not sure if that's fact or sales pitch, but either way it's a long wait till Aug/Sep delivery.

Thinking of going AW. Though wife hates VO, which might mean only I would drive the beast :thump:

So a much loved AW 2009 130i is now up for sale, as are E92M3 FSB & Control Arm kit that were never fitted.
Who is the dealer if you don't mind me asking

Pre-Delivery as in - prepping the car after the dealer gets it from BMW Aus?

This should only take a day or 2 max. As far as I know from my time with Audi & Porsche, it mostly involves recoding out of transport mode, removing suspension bumper stops, placing all the odds and ends that come packed in boxes into their designated places, a quick once over the car and a questionable detail.

They probably want it on the showroom floor for a few days.

Ian, did you order via Worthington? I could check their showroom for you in a couple of days and again. They are a short drive from my home.
