M1 0w-40 (LL-1 'BMW'). About every 5K miles.

BMW says that the ONLY oil you should use is one that says on the bottle: "BMW Long Life one LL-1". If it doesn't say that.... then don't use it!

I use this it's bmw LL-01 rated castrol edge (syntec) – euro forumla. Autozone, pepboys, o'reilly, etc. seem to sell it. You can also walk right into a bmw service department and buy oil it's same price as an auto parts store +/- a dollar or two. Can buy an oil filter from dealership for like $13-15 depending on tax. |

You don't want to use the BMW Euro oil (LL-01) if you're running high-sulfur American gas. That's why they recommend LL-04 for US engines.
Besides, what's the point?

Actually I think you have the opposite. Bmw LL-01 is recommended for US because of our high sulfur content in fuels. LL-04 is recommended for cars in Europe. To my knowledge in usa you can use a LL-01 or LL-04 oil, but in Europe you must use an LL-04 because a LL-01 isn't for low sulfur fuel like you have there. Someone more knowledgeable correct me if I'm wrong.

Oops - sorry about that.
I just remember when I lived in Spain I used one type of BMW oil and had to use a different type when I came back to the US. I guess since yours says "European Formula" on it I got it mixed up (it's really not the European formula, is it? Lol).

^^No problem Bob. I really do think it is an european blend/formula bc this oil is made in Germany. I think that is also why they put that statement: Only for sale in the Americas - bc as you know this same oil would sell for at least eight times the price it sells for in the states. Gotta love some of the POL taxes the Germans put up with!
