Any opinions on ASA Wheels?

I have had AR1’s on my Z4 for 4 years. Like Redwood said my clear coat on the dish part of the rim is flaking. It is doing it on only one rim. I would buy them again. They look really good on the Z4 and I plan on using them on the 135i. I got Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3 tires on the rims from Tire Rack. The package was $200 more mounted and shipped that the local Goodyear store wanted for the tires alone without rims. I am sure I can have the clear coat remove and re applied for not to much.

I had the 18 inch AR1's on my e36 m3 and they have held up great, pot holes and all. So good in fact that they still look new so I moved them over to my 135i when I got it. They happen to fit perfectly.

Are those the AR1s as well? And these are based on the BBS RS-GT, right? Are there any based on the BBS RGR?

According to Tire Rack, they're lighter than stock at 23 and 24 lbs. for wheels .5" wider than stock. That's not THAT much worse than BBS, though heavier than the similarly styled (but harder to fit) D Force EMPowers.

I've had AR1s on multiple cars the only complaint I have is the ones I used for winter wheels have the clear cote on the polished lip flaking. but that's after a few years of New England winters and heavy salt.

I am strongly considering the AR1s with the black center for my car.

I happen to like the looks of the ASA's alot. Sounds like they are strong enough from the responses above. If you're concerned about weight,..the weights are listed on the website,..just compare. Dont think they are that much heavier than many other custom wheels.

If you are worried about bending one,..For the price,..$$$$,...you can buy 5 or 6 ASA wheels (and have spares), and still be cheaper than a set of 4 of the High end names.

IMO I just think 23-24lbs are way to heavy if your going away from stock. I guess I'm just a big fan of lightweight wheels cause of performance reasons.

what size are those ar1s...i have used black asa ar1's for sale with polished lip like the silver 1 series pic you see ^^^^^ up there. I was looking to sell them for cheap with tires.

rear: 18x9 - 45mm offset

tires
front: 225/40 - 18
rear: 245/35 - 18

I was told that 255's should fit on the back so I might try that when the rears are gone.

The 18x8 AR2's are 23lbs. The 18x7.5 front 264's are 24.2lbs so they are less than stock.

I have heard ASA wheels are nice but not real strong like most oem wheels. I know of a couple people who have bent them, but I don't know the details. Not bad for a cheap wheel, but you get what you pay for. Forged is way better.

At $165 for a black ASA wheel complared to a OZ black forged rim for $900+.

I could bend and replace quite a few ASAs and still come out ahead money wise.
