re the 135; if the 17 inch all season package were standard how much would the 18 inch performance tires package cost as an upgrade?

Thanks for all the info!
Maybe you can answer this for me, there are a set of rims that I like but I have only seen them on european cars, is it possible (after you pay of course) to order a car with a different set of optional rims? Or is that forbidden? |

You can not order the car with different wheels. You may purchase different wheels from the BMW accessory catalog. |

True, and I would add that your options for getting rid of the OE wheels would be negotiating a buyback with the dealer during purchase of the car, or a private party sale.

If its already pushing 35 series tires on 18" wheels, fitting 19's is probably out of the question. I calculated and you'd have to run 30 series tires, way too thin for me (and should be for most people)
I dont mind as much but still had hope for 19's fitting there. Oh well. |

They could put an M mobility kit on the 1-er, just like on all M cars. Cheap, light weight and allows for bitchin' Michelin PS2 to be fitted as OEM...

Well yeah of course they do, but what I'm taking about in the 1er is not located on the passenger side of the trunk as BMW has traditionally done, but right in the middle...in the center well of the trunk. There's a diagram/line drawing floating around one of these forums of it.

Eventually they will be the standard on most cars. & along the way, I'm sure they will improve on they're current shortfalls! I could be wrong, but I don't see them replacing true performance tires :iono:

They didn't put the battery in there and then discover there was no space for the spare. I'm sure they could have arranged the battery to be on the side if they wanted to. There's not a spare because run-flats were incorporated into the chassis design. The suspension was designed for run-flats, and the chassis' crash absorption structure was designed to work without a spare. |

Quite true, and at the opposite end of the tire spectrum, it seems likely my E46's current 17" wheel + snow tire package will also fit the 135i. They've still got lots of life and I was hoping I wouldn't have to buy another set.

"Designed" for runflats? That's just how BMW markets it and sells you on the idea of runflats. Not everything you hear in the world is true my friend. Take any BMW with runflats and put normal tires on and suddenly it will handle better, ride smoother, get getter gas mileage, stop faster. That's because you're dumping a BUNCH of unsprung rotating weight and loosing those absurdly stiff sidewalls. Runflats=crap and the first modification most enthuisasts in here plan on doing when they get their car is to dump their runflats faster than last nights dinner, then adding what's known as a "tire mobility set" in Europe...which means a can of fix-a-flat and a quality 12V air compressor. I also recommend a tire plug set because its not hard to do. |

MANY Z4 owners that I know, have complained about tire issues, especially tramlining... The problems magically disappeared when they ditched the RFs. The car handled better & the ride was smoother as well.
