rough idle and check engine light

hey guys'

for a little while, I though I was imagining like a little blip.

So yesterday with a -7 here in TO, I wanted to get some of this salt of the car
so I took it in to a jet wash to get some of the salt of, used a low power rinse spray, all done, no probs,
under the a wheel arches as well, then drove 5 mins to a touchless carwash, waited on idle in queue, no probs, about 10 minutes after coming out, no probs, got on the main road, and she lost all power, engine check light came on, put my foot on the gas, revved but very hessitant, nothing, so I limped home but on the way home the engine check disappeared and all was well in the world

So used it yesterday no prob, this morning on the way to work I noticed

After I drove 40km's got off the highway, stopped at a red light in D, foot on brake I'm getting this blip, the rev counter drops, like she's going to stall, not a bad drop but like a little blip ,does this several times, then lights change, drive to work and stop in under ground garage,

did some testing, and had this idle fluctuation on P and D worse when the AC is on

however on cold start up this morning, no problems, when the car was fully warm on the highway after about 20k
the accelerator became very rough then the check engine light came on and car felt very rough, when I was nearly at work, it went off

going to try and pickup an obdii tester

I think I may be having the same issue with my car. Only difference is that I have a dct so that car jerks and bucks violently.
Someone in my thread said they had the same issue, and it turned out for them to be leaking injectors which fouled up the spark plugs.

I have noticed that this issue mainly happens when I am doing a lot of running around....starting and shutting off the engine with several short trips around town.

For now, I am going to try to change to spark plugs since that seems to be the common thing across what others have described

thansx for all the replies, makes me feel LESS alone and stressed

One thing I tried yesterday, was driving, gently but when on the hiway I used cruise control, at 100kmph and no check lights
this morning I tried at 110kmph again no check lights

now the weather yesterday was a lot warmer, so I' dont know if anything has dried out de-iced?

not done any "spirited driving"
wondering if I also had some bad fuel, not read the codes yet
going to wait till the fuel bottoms out and refill

hoping to get someone with a reader or buy one

yes !

had the codes read by my mechanic mate

misfire in cylinder 1, he says most common thing is coil pack.

Were also not sure if this may be due to bad fuel, so I'm gonna do another fillup at a different gas station in a few days

The car is under w'tee, and has an extended on there, so if it is, I can now take it to BMW with my printout

Sounds like water got down to your spark plug "holes". It doesn't take much for water to get under the plastic valve cover and to your coils/plugs. Just use some compressed air or take the car out for a LONG drive. The water should boil right off.

IF your car is around ~40K miles... you should replace the spark plugs in the least. Maybe coils too.

Good Luck,
Dackel

I might check that;
but have been driving the car for like several days now
plus I take it up on the hiway, 40kms either way to work

although, where looking at -temps for the past few days;
might take a look at it if I can

all covered under warantee

faulty coil pack, which caused a fouled spark plug.

I am having the same problem with the car I bought in Jan. Rough idle and little response to throttle accelerating from a stop when I have the A/C on, just a rough idle w/ no A/C on. I also heard a software update might help. Also, was the warranty that covered it an extended warranty?
Thanks for any response!
