Anyone Underspray?

Hi guys. I did a quick search and didn't come up with much.

Does anyone get their car undersprayed for winter with some sort of rust-stop coating? Is it even worth it?

I've coated my past few cars for winter driving here in NY and I think it's worth the ~ $60/season.

However, the 135 has undertrays that my shop says they "won't remove". Does anybody remove theirs first, or does a shop typically just spray between the undertrays?

Thanks in advance for your insight.

It's 2011, I think cars come from factory with rust protection already. Save your $60.

Do not even bother to think about doing it. Not necessary. If anything, it will trap moisture and make it worse.

Almost everything they would spray either already has a superior, factory applied coating or is does not corrode. Unless you know of a specific location that is rusting and you know that they scrape and prep that area first, I don't see how it's useful.

Thanks for the responses, guys. The spray I'm talking about is a clear, oil-based, gel-like substance that goops and sticks to the suspension components. Not the black rubberized unerspray stuff from the factory.

The salt around here is pretty plentiful, but if you guys say that BMW has sufficiently coated these parts (I assume they have!), then we're good to go!

Well, while I agree with the current replies to this thread, I still believe that if your piece of mind is worth $60, then do it. If this was just a random thought, and your underwear isn't in a knot over the decision, then don't do it.

It's only $60. If you bought a BMW, you can afford this. If you can't? Well...
