TPMS Help.

I recently bought a set of wheels from a member here, also a set of TPMSensors from a different member. I ordered a set of tires from the Tirerack and had it all mounted by my local mechanic. For some reason the car does not see the sensors and just gives me a TPMS malfunction.(No option to reset) My car is a 2010 135i, I've attached a pic from the for sale add of the sensors. Is there a way to reset the system(not via the Idrive)? Did I buy the wrong sensors? Or are the sensors I bought just dead?

You can only reset the TPMS system when the car is on but NOT moving. You can do this thru the iDrive or the BC (via the turn signal stalk). My car doesn't have iDrive so I just scroll thru the BC menu until I see the TPMS icon... then press and HOLD the BC button at the end of the stalk... then you need to drive for a mile or two. This should reset your TPMS light - as long as all your tires have proper tire inflation.

For 2011 Model Year(from Sept 2010 build dates and later) BMW changed the TPMS freq - maybe you have a set of those sensors? In which case you will need new sensors and mounting and balancing. ANy good tire shop should be able to scan each tire TPMS and see if its putting out a signal and IF the battery is still good.

You could also have your car coded to use the EU tire warning system as well. That way you will never need new TPMS. The EU system uses the car's ABS wheel speed sesnors to detect a flat tire.

Thanks for the reply guys. I'm aware of how to reset the tpms system when it is functioning. When I go to the menu to reset the system "reset" is grayed out. I assume the system isn't seeing the sensors.

You bought the wrong sensors. Those are for a MY11-14.

You need RDE008 sensors.

That's what I was afraid of. Oh well. I'll change them next time I need tires.
