Brushed Al Interior Trim
Hi All,
Did anyone run across brushed Al trim for 135i's? I found this on BMW's main website and thought the trim looks much better than the Glacier Silver AL trim... I looked at a couple of places and no one carries this trim in the US. Cheers!! |

Well... if this is the same stuff as in the German spec e87's... I'm not a fan of it. The trim in my service laoners looks Ok from afar... but upclose it looks cheap. Its painted plastic - not metal! Here are some pics from my last loaner. Even the trim does not match from steering wheel to door to center dash! CHEAP! I think there is a reason why BMW NA does not offer it.

Thanks for the reply and posting your photos. If it's plastic, I'll pass too... I may end up getting the glacier silver Al trim after all.... Cheers!

I think the brushed alum will show scratches much more readily than the glacier silver. The texture of the glacier will hide imperfections better.

I have seen another alu trim on the older e46 cars. It was alu but had these little swirls all over the trim. Looked very cool. Kind of (old school) Bugatti like.

I have the glacier trim in my 1er - and I love it! But then again the sun isn't as strong over here(in DE) as it is in Texas.
I would still buy a car with glacier trim again. |

Thanks for the reply and input fellas!!
The only reason I wanted to change my existing trim is simply because my current trim does not mach the performance auto shift nob and hand brake grip that I installed a few days ago. My current trim is the gray poplar wood trim. I guess to go with the performance theme for the interior of my car, I should consider the CF trim which is almost twice the price or more when compared to a normal trim.... Thanks again fellas.... BTW, I'm going to the first Tejas Chapter meeting for the year tomorrow in San Marcos, TX.... I hope it will be a fun event... Cheers!! |

Mojo - you could always try wrapping your trim with something like 3M's DiNoc CF foil. Do a search... there are lots of ppl here who have done this. Ofcourse BMW's (real) CF looks gorgeous, but it is just so much $$$!

I had the brushed aluminium, and it looked pretty damn good. and it was real aluminium, not just painted plastic. but it does scratch, esp the door handles where you may accidentally rub your keys or something on it. another prob i found with it was that in the middle of a sunny day it could be quite glarey. unfortunately i dont have any photos of the brushed aluminium as i got it wrapped in the 3m cf stuff. anyway, if you are thinking of getting the wraped stuff, here are some photos: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=386490 |

Brushed aluminium trim looks great, much better than in the loaner car example posted above (which looks like plastic trim painted silver). I personally think that CF trim looks a lot better however. Also the major problem with the brushed aluminium is that it scratches super easily. And I mean EASILY. If you or your wife/girlfriend wear a ring, or a watch, expect to start seeing scratches especially on the door handles from day 1. It very quickly looks tired and old. Brand new quite nice, couple of weeks/months later, not so nice.

That's true. I'm more inclined now to get the CF trim which about $300 to $400 more expensive the Al brushed trim... Cheers...
