what we really need is a good air intake for a reasonably price, as i just figured out today i could make my own little intake using autozone intake and filter, i actually got the intake together, and found a little piece to put the air sensor in and it worked all i needed to do was add on the cone filter i bought, but i decided i couldn't really ruin my bmw like this so i took the parts back haha, but if i could do this for under 70$ i'm sure we could get a simple air intake for a reasonably price, not the 750$ tag bmw is offering or 350 for an afe kit which isn't even really a whole intake setup, its just a cone that replaces your airbox def not worth it.

Ok guys I have now got 3 ecu tunes to compare. First of all 125i Stock (here in Australia) comes with 160kw and 270Nm.
HRT Hiop Performance tune Upgraded: 170kw and 286Nm $1645 AUD Powerchip Upgraded: 169kw and 286Nm $1690 DMS Automotive Upgraded: 176kw and 294Nm $2100 As you can see the DMS tune is the best and they will install it for you (at the price quoted above), whereas the other 2 companies you could do it yourself and send it off overnight post or go to a local dealer and get them to uninstall/install it for you but you will have to pay on top off the price quoted above, which will probably end up at around the price of DMS. I think I will go with the DMS but will think about it for a little, also because there is a DMS dealer here and they will keep the car overnight as they connect the car to DMS uk, download the new software (overnight) and then the car is ready the next day. Hope this info helps you guys. Last edited by wmj73; 04-22-2009 at 06:54 AM.. |

The stock HP and torque (125i) are 215 HP and 270 Nm (200 lbf-ft). (I assume 170 for the torque was a typo)
In US type units, the following are the increases: Power (HP): 10 - 20 Torque (lbf-ft): 10 - 15 Price: $1150 - 1500 USD The US spec engine puts out 230 HP stock, so who knows how these would apply... interesting nonetheless. Still seems pretty expensive to me.

Hello to all,
happy 125i (EU car) coupe owner here. It seems that some tuners can't make a lot of chip tuning with E82 cars manufactured after 09/2008. I badly need to add some 40-60 HP to my 125i (buying 135i was not option due to custom duty and tax consequences that increase price way over the top here), so now I don't know which way might be the most purposeful. Any thoughts? Thanks. |

from the date you name, bmw has changed the ecu to make life harder for tuners. in germany the most reputable ones already have a way to get the tuning done despite the new ecu. i don´t know how many tuners you have in russia but i´m sure they will find a way to give you the same ~270hp we germans are able to "buy"

Guys from service station told me that if I get parts and instalation instruction, they will do it. Any idea which tuners in Germany would be the best option to contact for that (purchase of parts) ? |

max we can get from remappers over here is about +17bhp (that's over stock 265bhp). costs vary but expect to pay around £250. helps if 99ron fuel is used.

I had conversation with highly specialized ECU cracker/chip tuner and they provide 125i re-tuning solution to its original full extent power (272 HP) that is 100% exact as original BMW electronic motor management may provide from N52 engine. With additional spending for air intake and exhaust system 125i would make healthy 280-284HP (torque around 345) without actually touching any vital part and compromising engine durability. Final touch is (my car has automatic gearbox) optimizing gear shifting scenario in both normal and sport variant. He mentioned that BMW additionally killed acceleration of 125i with automatic gearboxes due to poorly chosen shift's points and stock acceleration data on the most powefull 1series clearly shows that: 0-100 km/h (62 mph) 123d - M 7,0 s A 7,1 s 130i - M 6,0 A 6,2 s 135i - M 5,3 A 5,4 s compared to 125i - M 6,3 s A 7,0 s Worsening so much acceleration between manual and automatic is not necessary and can be optimized to 0,1 to 0,2 s difference that is indistinguishable. Finally, I expect to bring highly optimized ECU-intake/exhaust-gearbox program of my 125i acceleration to level of around 5,8-5,9 s (with much better reaction to pushing pedal and specially power on higher revs) what is dangerously close to 135i and IMO wasn't at all intention of BMW (otherwise who would buy 135i for marginal power difference). In same time I prefer traditional non-turbo engine for many reasons, as well as, non 'M- sport' comfortable suspension ride. Estimate costs for all above will set me back for around 2500 $ what I find perfectly reasonable. Total saving on 125 re-tuned/optimized vs 135 is substantial, specially including annual tax savings (for engines over 245HP taxes double here) and I don't feel that car lacks anything (I don't feel much need for Brembo brakes or sport suspension due to driving style, but still need healthy engine power) and avoiding turbo engine + having much comfortabler ride is additional plus, so in my view 125i can be smartly turned to very uncompromised car and probably cheapest way to enter real driving nirvana. |
