OFFICIAL New BMW Model Info

I know you people only care about the 3 series info... but I will include some 5 series info, too... since it's pertinent.

The current 2006 5 series will now wrap up production... the MY07 5 series (except for the M5) will start in March/April... new CA emissions laws were the claimed reasons for the early change to the 5 series.

3 series coupe will start production in June'06... convertible will start production in Dec'06
It was very interesting to see the BMWNA rep dodge the "Will the convertible be a hard top?" and "Will we be getting a Turbo?" questions... he referred to that as classified and then went on to explain why they didn't want the competition to have the information while at the same time assuring us that "BMW will not let the competition get to far ahead of us with HP" but reminded everyone that BMW is about the entire package. Very interesting indeed.

M6 will start production in March'06.

I can't wait for more information... this should be the greatest year in BMW's history... and we are right in the middle of it!

Do you have any more info on the specific changes for MY07 E60s?

Not yet... I'm working on it. The interesting thing is that the 5 and 3 series tow the same line. Whatever engines the 3 series has... the 5 series also gets. I'll let you know what I find out over the next couple of days. The 5 series news broke today... more will be coming.

Speedfreak - do you know if the NS52 engine will be obsolete with the new lineup or do they just plan on tuning it?

Do you know if there is a new type of 2,5 litre diesel under development? Coz.. it's like 177 hp and the 520d is 163.. that's pretty close? (I know there is a 60 newton difference but still)

Following the recent announcement of the entry-level BMW 520d for September,
the award-winning BMW 5 Series range gains another new powerplant,
also in September, with the launch of the V8-engined 540i.
The BMW 540i uses the same 4,000cc engine already seen in the new 7 Series and is capable of propelling
the 5 Series from zero to 62mph in a time of 6.2 seconds and on to a limited top speed of 155mph.
The 540i’s engine delivers 306hp and 390Nm of torque, while combined fuel consumption is 25.7mpg with CO2 emissions of 264g/km.

The 540i is offered in Saloon guise only and is priced at £36,985 for the SE and £39,610 for the M Sport.

Are these production time slots for NA or Europe? What does that mean in term of Delivery Date?

I don't think BMW has ever had just a 3 year run with a model (at least not in recent, modern times). Changing a model after 3 years, will royally piss of buyers who just bought a 2006 5 Series (especially laying 65k+ on a 550i). I think BMW will keep the current 5 Series at least 2 more years. It is still winning reviews and awards!

I don't think SpeedFreak is referring to an entire change to the 5 series like going from E39 to E60. It's all the minor changes such as new engines, trim, styling, options, etc.

You mean USA allocated production, since we and the rest of the world already have M6 being delivered

Why would the 5 Series have to change in March, but not the 3 series, since they use exactly the same 6 cylinder engines ( it cannot be the V8 ones sincer they are brand new)

Do you think they are launching the USA only N51 engine early as seen on the doc that first showed us the N52 ???

Your date of June 2006 for the couple also fits in perfectly for the N53 on this 2003 document

Nice piece of paper FLEET!

The right engine is the 3.0litre Direct Injection ATL Auspuff(Exhaust)T(urbo)Lader. You see the 2 turbos!

True.

E92 is now (January) entering in the Final Evaluation Pilot phase (aka FEP2), in April the Final Evaluation Production (aka FEP3 or pre-production), and in June the production starts.

PR is coming very soon.

E93 starts production in December, as Speed said. Expect first info and pics already in June.

M6 is already in full production, but US sales starts in March.

As for 5er / 6er, mind they will get engine upgrade before or along with 3er.

N51 2.5L SULEV II US engine is also coming this year as planned - as either 323i / 523i or 325i / 525i.

That docc came out before the E90 info was released and before anyone had heard about the N52 before

So its been pretty accurate so far

I know but when I posted it over at Bimmerfest I got comments like this from certain posters in the know.

Quote:
My only point is that your use of the document is heavily flawed. It has been right about only one thing... we got a 3.0L N52 (9 months after it claims) that produces 215hp/255hp and is 12% more efficient. Everything else you used the document for has either been wrong or is more speculation.
Quote:
So in summary, your "proof" is good for just about nothing. I, too, was very excited when I first saw this document forever ago. But sadly, more then TWO years after its printing, a whole hell of a lot of things could and probably have changed.
Your still a good guy with me though Speed I cant wait till this is all over. I feel like Dwyane Wade waiting for his birthday.

Speedfreak!:
Thank you very much for the info about the production dates, so I can plan my order and get the coupe before my school year starts. Also, I have a question for you. When the 3 series coupe first comes out, will there be 335ci being produced in June? Thank you!!
