Keep in mind that the M3 time was from a 2008 without the newest DCT software and no competition pkg. The newest DCT software has made the M3 faster.

The E92 M3 8:05 was run using a '08 6 speed manual M3, which did not even have competition package in it. One way or the other, M3 is just in a different league compared to 1-M with or without DCT. Even with DCT, if the 1-M could shave off a couple of tenths, the ZCP M3 with DCT has been said to run 7:58 so there is no way 1-M could threaten the M3 in any shape or form so BMW has absolutely no reason to marginalize the 1-M by not offering DCT.

I knew I should have held onto my E46 M3 another year or so. Then I could get the 1M. Damn me and my penchant for just going out and buying shat. I knew I should have not purchased to 135i....

People will continue to believe these type of statements to justify to themselves that the 1M is a "better car" than the M3. The current m3 is a masterpiece of a car. This will be realized when it's discontinued.

AutoBahn cruiser? That is the terminology used for Rolls Royce, Mercs and Audi A6 and A8s. Great way to marginalize M3's substantially superior handling capabilities.
The only place where 1-M can give problems to the M3 is in a very small tight autoX circuit where the short wheelbase of the 1-M will be an advantage. In a track with high speed turns like Nordchliefe, M3 destroys the 1-M as apparent in their official lap times. 1-M is for people who want a little more than the 135 sport. M3 is in a different league so you guys better stop comparing it to the M3. Quote:
