2007-2008 Z4M Coupe Vs. 135i
I'm in the market for a new car and having trouble deciding. Right now I am driving a 1997 M3 coupe supercharged by active autos. The thing is a beast! So I am tring to decide what will give me a thrill that can compete. I leaning toward the 135i b/c it is very open to relatively cheap mods with great performance output. But then again a 07-08 z4m coupe will let me keep the M performance but without the cheap mod capability. Also I have never driven a z4 or m for that matter so it is completely foreign to me. I have driven a auto 135i and was very impressed although it is not really representive of the manual i would get. Any thoughts or experiences would really be appreciated since people on this board are very enthusiastic and take their cars seriously like me.

if you can handle having only 2 seats, there's better options

Just checked and those cars are outa my league. I don't think I would switch to an american car after driving an M and covetting the handling like I do. The lotus is a bad ass car but with very little backing (corporation wise)and the matrix engine just puts a bad taste in mouth. The porche cayman could be fun but I dont think it looks as good and I'm not sure it is even as fast.

My buddy owns a Z4M and I own a 135. IMHO, I still like the 135 better, its more of a practical car and at the same time a BEAST. @ the end of the day the decision is yours of course, but I will say 135 all the way!

I was planning on getting the Z4M put production had ended and there weren't any left on dealer lots by March. In the end I'm kind happy that I got the 135i since it's a lot more practical and just as fast. I just need to spend some money on the suspension and it'll handle just as well.

Unfortunately, where I live (tallahassee) there are no 135i manuals and no Z4MC manuals to test and compare. The handling of the 135i auto i drove was pretty sick (I thought). Although I am driving a 97 so the suspension has got to be worlds ahead of mine. I would also think that the suspension of the 135i is comparable to that of the Z4MC since it is 1. newer and 2. the car has a pretty even weight distribution.

For $36K you might be able to buy an Exige. I've seen a few for that price- Elises are in the high 20's low 30's now for the most part.

so far the majority stands by the M, but for performance... however the numbers don't show a clear winner. If anything the 135i might be faster. Is the majority going with the M due to its 'raw' feel and not really performance? Is the Z chassis and suspension that much better than that of the 1?

My CA traded in his Z4M Coupe for a 135i. He admits he does miss the Z, but he his very happy with the 135i. He doesn't feel he sacrificed any performance and only gained practicality. His laps around the Summit Point Circuit are the same if not getting better in the 1er.

Z4M do not think further. I had a pleasure of owning Z for two years. It is unforgettable.
Z it isn’t only performance. It is more precise handling and very stable feel. Needless to say that Z style is very distinctive and eyes catching. I changed Z to 1 just because I got extra baby.
