Walnut Shell Blasting at Dealer
I might just be the luckiest guy on Earth...
Car has been in and out for random misfires (still under extended warranty with CPO) and they've replaced a couple coils and plugs. Well I brought it in yesterday and got a loaner and they called me this morning saying that they did tests on the injectors and coils and all that and its all showing up good, but its showing multiple misfires and telling them to pull the intake manifold. So they are going to cover the walnut shell blasting and intake cleaning FOR FREEEE. So happy right now. Just wanted to make this thread as a shout out to Michael Huerta (service advisor at BMW of Tulsa) in case anyone reading this was in the area and looking for good, honest work at a dealer. Also, what would be an appropriate "thank you" for them doing this? Looking like a golden opportunity to establish a great relationship and have clear sailing ahead. Sorry for the crazy run-on sentences. I'm a little bit giddy at the moment. Car has 52,xxx miles by the way.

Very nice that they're doing it for free, but it sounds like the car actually threw a code indicating the need to do the job. Since it's under CPO/warranty that would naturally be covered work. See also, they are just doing their jobs.
I'm not saying it's not nice to get someone something once in a while, but don't do it because you feel like you have to since they did you a favor. They didn't. As far as what to get? It depends on the service advisor. I've done doughnuts, beer, and the best response was to some 1792 bourbon. Affordable but very good. http://www.1792bourbon.com/ Bottom line, try to figure out what you think they would like, and keep it inexpensive. The gesture means more.

Yeah I wouldn't do anything extravagant, just wondering if the gesture is even appropriate. I'm not exactly sure what the code was telling them to do, but I was under the impression that it wasn't covered. I'm not under the factory warranty anymore, just the extended. Maybe what I had seen was just them not covering it preventatively. Either way, I've dealt with some douche-bag SA's in the past and this guy just took charge and worked everything out. I'm not even being charged the deductible on the CPO work (actually stole me away from another SA that couldn't do his job). Just felt like some kind of thank you was needed.

Gift card works better That way they can choose what they want. You never know if they'd be offended by a bottle of booze or 6-pack. The dealership might have a policy about gifts so check first.
Call the dealer's GM too. Tell them what a great job they did and single out the SA and the tech if the job was done correctly. Believe me, they'll remember you next time. Sometimes just rating them high on the survey will do enough for them.

My car's in the shop for its second Walnut Blasting. This time I'm paying for it, however my SA and mechanic told me that I'm having issues with acceleration and carbon build-up, because I don't drive the car hard. AAARRRRGGGHHH..

My SA hinted at that same thing. Didn't tell me that I don't drive it hard, we just were talking about what all he's seen. He said that the most common car they have done it on, was on old people's that don't drive hard at all. I always kind of assumed it would be the opposite. Oh well I guess this is good news!
