I still am not 100% convinced my 6sp/ZSP 135i will have the aux oil cooler (though now I'm a bit more hopeful), but, like you Chris, if I do have issues, BMW will be remedying it, regardless of what options I ordered.

BTW, slightly OT, I believe Helix has indicated that the IC they developed for the 335i should be direct fit for the 135i.

edit:
Also, if there is some confusion all N54 powered cars have an gearbox oil cooler integrated into the front radiator, this is NOT an engine oil cooler. That (if equiped) is located within the passenger side wheel well. Perhaps that is the confusion on these boards when discussing a "second" oil cooler.

All BMW's have gearbox oil coolers, though BMW was not taken too kindly when some 335i owners saw high engine temps then found out their cars were not equiped with the engine oil cooler. I believe this information may clear up the terminology.

Color me among the confused, although there's no excuse for my ignorance about the cooler. Thanks for clearing this up.

This forum is steadily becoming a solid technical resource for all matters 1-series, and I hope it continues to mature in that direction.

Ah, so without the right hand side oil cooler, there is no engine oil cooler then? One of the Australian members took a pic at his local motor show which showed the engine oil cooler. Seeing that all Australian car comes speced with M sports package (yes we even get all the M logos) I would imagine that is why we will get the oil cooler as standard. As for intercooler, I am sure tuners will come up with some nice FMIC if the ones from 135i don't fit.

Exactly! This is well documented on the 335i.

Oil cooler in Canada

I called BMW Customer Service here in Canada (talked to Michelle Dionne) about the secondary oil cooler situation with the 135i. She checked with Product Planning and informed me that for the Canadian market, all 135i's will get the secondary oil cooler EXCEPT for cars with the smaller 17" wheels. The M sport package does NOT have to be ordered to get the secondary oil cooler in Canada. All 135i's with the 18" wheels will get it in Canada.

This appears to be slightly different than in the USA, where it looks like the sport package needs to be ordered to get the secondary oil cooler.

Hopefully the US cars will also get the secondary oil cooler regardless of PKG. :iono:

I'm not worried. If I need to add one, I will.

you will most likely need to get the sport package for the auto to recieve the oil cooler and most likely all manual tranny cars will get it regardless.
