Microfiber/towels - where to buy?
Guys -
Now that the weather's getting better, I ordered the zaino kit and hope on doing some cleaning/polishing next weekend. With zaino in mind, can anyone recommend the following: 1) whether I should be using towels or microfiber 2) what the preferred online vendors are for each (a blend of good quality and good value). 3) what different types do I need? 4) how many do I need? thanks.

I get mine at costco. They sell a 20-pack for around 10 bux. With all those mf towels, you can use some to dry your car and the rest to remove each layer of zaino!

I was a true believer in good cotton back in the day. Now i no longer feel that way. www.pakshak.com are the best towels you will buy. Ultra plush are great as well as the ultra fine and there WW. I for the most part only use Pakshak's. Ive tried just about them all. However the Cobra Ultra Plush are really nice too but im finding the durability is not there compared to the Pakshak. I would get a few of each and decide for yourself. www.autogeek.net for the Cobra's.
A LOW QUALITY MF IS JUST AS BAD A USING A RAG ON YOUR CAR! Chris

Thanks. I'll try pakshak. What have people heard about www.waynestowels.com?
How many do you think I need for the whole Zaino process? I figure I gotta: - wash the car once with Dawn (wool mit) - dry it (1 waffle MF) - clay it (1 MF to clean off residue area as I go) - wash again with Z7 (same wool mit) - dry again (new waffle MF) - how many more for the actual ZFX/Z2/Z6 etc steps? thanks

oh gee, i think you guys are just overdoing it. wash it with a MF towel, dry it with sheep skin, apply wax with another MF towel and remove wax with yet another MF tower. so i'd say, you need 3.
as to where to get them, i believe you can get them in basically any auto part store (advance auto?).

I ordered my MF towels from Pakshak as well. They work the best in my opinion. No scratches. The ones from Griot's are good to, but not worth the price. Store bought mf towels tend to be to thin. They are almost like cotton.

if you do the sheeting process you only need 1 large WW from pakshak. Get 2 of the glass ones for the windows. That will cover drying. Never use drying mf's for your paint on your wheels.
2 towels to QD 2-3 for wax removal 3-4 for polish removal Chris

I still would stick with all 100% cotton to dry and wax. I don't trust microfiber. It's like that old Mercedes commercial, find the softest, plushest, best 100% cotton towel, buy 96 of them, and go to work.

I spoke with the manager of this detailing place and said to use a MF cloth. You can get it in Costco for around $9.+ for a set of 20. That's what i use.

I purchased some similar MF towels from Sam's Club. They scartched the living shit out of my clear coat (micro marring). I will never use them again on any of my vehicles. Cheap MF towles suck! |
