Dealer software flash my 135is

Hey folks! Looking for advice on my 135is...
On a recent service (late April 2016) when both engine mounts were replaced the dealer also said the car was due for a software update, which I thought was odd...I asked and they said it was engine software not nav or anything else. When I got the car back maybe it was me but the car felt a bit less powerful. Is there a chance they gave me 135i software and not the is version?

Is that even possible or is this software update just more conservative? I swear the car used to pull like hell and now it feels like it lost some power across the board.

The service readout says:
"Ck system vt+bc ck faults dme fc 2dce valve tronic system
Refer to sib 12 36 15 informing to reprogrma vehicle
Tech performed vt+bc test plan and programmed control units
Incl cas. AS per sib 12 36 15
Road test after and no faults returned system ok"

Maybe our resident BMW tech Downeaster1, who also owns a 135is can assist. He has been very helpful in the past.

So basically what is going on here (according to the bulletin) is that software errors stored in the DME, are causing random valvetronic codes to populate. The solution currently, is to program the DME. Looks like the tech programmed the car, and road tested it. To answer your question directly, the way ISTA/P is set up, it won't allow you to not program the PPK into the car. Every vehicle has what is referred to as a "Vehicle order". What this basically is, is a list of "things" that the car has (eg: secondary blow-by heating, power windows, style 313 wheels, PPK, etc). In order to program the car, ISTA/P has to read the vehicle order.

Special options like the PPK require what they call an FSC code. Basically an unlock code for navigation data, satellite radio activation and performance power kits (basically anything that costs money to add on later). So they are very picky to make sure those particular items are programmed in.

I saw the 135IS badge in the picture and ran the VIN. Sure enough it was a clean titled, 6MT 135is with 52k miles for $23,000. I put a thousand down over the phone, and began a 18 hour trip with my father in law. The car is everything I expected and more! So my biggest question is what can I do right now preventative to keep her purring? Water pump, hpfp, Ect? Thanks Guys, and Gals!

Good find! N55 high pressure fuel pumps arn't very problematic. Sure, every now and then one or two may have an issue as it is a components with moving parts, but generally they are nowhere near as horrible as the N54 units. BMW's in general have crap cooling systems, so always keep a budget aside for cooling system repairs. The cost of the part for the water pump alone is about $546, so keep that in mind.

The CBS data calls for an engine oil service every 15k miles. That is the biggest load of horseshit I've ever encountered. I recommend an oil service every 5k miles with a 5W-40 or better (depending on what climate you live in). With that, I would look into the purchase of an oil catch can. These direct-injection engines don't exactly like the intake valves not being cleaned constantly, and the valves get clogged up fairly easily. A $200 oil catch can is far cheaper than an $800 intake cleaning service.

Enjoy the car, and run the VIN to find which one of the 586 135is's you have!

Awesome! Thank you for the feedback I really appreciate it. This helps alot. I will move in that direction and probably buy a water pump preemptively. Good to know that the high-pressure fuel pump is not as much of an issue, that was the issue that was really scary to me.I think the first thing I'll do is do a quality oil change. I did oil changes on my E46 E36 and e53 any reason I shouldn't brave to the oil change on this car?

Nope, the oil service is nearly identical, but you do need the special tool to remove the oil filter cap if you want to do it correctly.

does the oil catch can really prevent intake cleaning?? from what I know you still have to do the cleaning, no??

I'll add though that the infamous red on red 135is has shown back up for sale after 3 years back at IG Burton.

More of a rust or burnt orange. =P

Sad...I wish the person who finally bought that infamous car that sat there for over a year and was marked down like $10-12k at the end would have come on here. Maybe they were embarrassed. Pretty sure they were color blind though. Bet it was the coolest green car they'd ever seen!

Unfortunately, due to attorney-client privilege and confidentiality issues, I'm not at liberty to discuss. Let's just say the seats used to be black.

Lol. I read that out loud in Peter Sellers Pink Panther faux French accent and it became even funnier.

And of course the movie clip
