My introduction to BMW was via their motorcycles: 1996 K75, then a 1999 R1100S and finally, my current bike, a 2004 K1200RS. My 135i is like a four-wheeled motorcycle...puts a smile on my face every time I start it up and head out ....and the K1200RS is a bit jealous of it!

I kwould have also liked to have seen a wider track and non-feminine offsets. If the car were a bit wider and had offsets similar to the E46 M3, it would not only look more aggressive, it also handle way better.

It means the offsets on the 135i are for pussies. +45 is Honda and WRX ish. That's effing weak. Especially considering the depth of the wheel wells. First BMW I have owned / come across where there was absolutely no room for more aggressive offsets. Seriously? 255 is the widest you can go on the rear of a 300hp car? I ran 295/35/19 (19x10) on my M3 w/o any fender rolling and the coilovers were maxed out. This car has girly offsets.

I came from a 911cab- and I honestly get every bit as much pleasure driving the 135- yes the PS is a wonderful addition!
I love the "phump" sound between gears of you shift above about 5k I also LOVE the way the 1 series looks ( as long as it has the 18inch wheels)- but that's one category that I might miss the 911 just a bit......

I love my 135i.
Just because a dealer has 30 loaners out that does not mean anything. Most of them are probably for routine maintenance. Just go by a Chevy or Ford dealer when they open up and see the lines.

Sounds like you have a problem with the dealer. Easy solution: switch dealers.

No worries, David. That's the beauty of this forum. So much opportunity to learn a lot as I certainly have. It's a limited slip differential, of the mechanical variety in the case of the Quaife unit I want. The 135 has a tendency to spin the inside wheel on bends and probably oversimplifying how it works, the LSD locks the drive wheels together providing more grip. The other benefit is the ability to do nicely balanced rock-star drifts if you're talented enough. There are lots of threads with more useful and detailed information on LSDs and you should check them out. Of course, the presence of the LSD also helps with grip in winter driving.

Thanks Yogi!!
Given that I lease, it's not likely that I'd change the differential. I was actually convinced by the salesman to lease, as opposed to buying. Given that my car just had over $15k of work after a collision, it was the right move ( isn't it great when 20/20 hindsight works LOL) But as a lease, I am hesitant to put money into aftermarket stuff.. Lucky for me the accident destroyed my exhaust, which is why I now have the PE- which is super nice!

You might do better if you did not yell at the guys in the service department. On my 2000 325 wagon there were very few issues. I traded it just before the warranty ran out. During that time I zero outlay other than gas, insurance, state inspections and tags.

Trading it in BEFORE the warranty runs out? I would have dedicated a shrine or something in you and your car's honour if your story read that you traded it in after 200,000 miles or something. Just because a car makes it through its warranty period without problems doesn't make it reliable; granted there are cars that don't but I would simply expect a car of this cost to be problem free at least up to that point. No victory for BMW in this story. What were the issues if you don't mind my asking? For further context.

Issues, both front window lifts went out. Please dedicate a shrine in my honor, I need a bit of recognition these days.

Hehe... When my sister pushes her ignition button on her 2011 135i in the morning... I feel my room shake.

You never expect that aggressive bark the 135i makes to come out of such a docile little car. I love that

I love my 128i. 18 months and 28,000 miles and it's been near perfect. Best car I've owned since my 1983 RX-7 (Series I). RWD is no problem with a set of winter tires.

I think its funny how noone has yet to comment on the one bit about the guy getting 59mpg on his 1er...sorry but that's impossible. I drive like a granny most of the time, specially now cuz its cold, but I average about 20-21mpg. Thinking now cuz its wicked cold ill get less mpg, last time i fueled up i had only gotten 255 miles on a full tank. I do mostly around town driving with VERY little highway so its a lil less than most but looks like this most recent tank will only give me around 230 miles =\
Dunno, seems pretty low to me for a full tank costing me around 35-40 bucks I have a few complaints bout the car in general: 1. Front seat bottom is not wide enough and the pedal placement is too far to the left. Seems perhaps if the car was a tad wider they could have widened the seats a little and centered the pedals with the seat a bit more, you can even tell when looking at it. Not that big a deal but I notice it more when im wearing bulkier clothes, etc. 2. Damn armrest from hell, vibrations from the hinge because it rests on it solely as opposed to a more solid rest. 3. Bouncy/floaty suspension with the M-Sport, which I know is mainly due to the stock shocks. Removing the RFT's improved that a bit, but driving at speed on the highway over any bumps or anything, or around town over bad roads, etc. you can really feel it. I plan on going with FSD's later next year as many have said doing just that improves that a hell of a lot, the ride height seems perfect to me so I doubt ill do springs as well, FSD's should work fine with stock springs. Those are the main thing that come to mind, however none are anything that would ever cause me to badmouth the car or give it up, just an annoyance once in a while. And obviously anytime I really get on it I completely forget about any problems i have |
