Slight engine tick

I have noticed a slight engine tick during warmup of the engine. I can only hear it outside of the car during idle. I am using 91 in there, is this normal?

My car does the same. I had the dealer check it out when I brought it in for the HPFP recall last week, and they confirmed it's normal.

I have the same ticking noise they said its the normal sound for the n54 engine

i got same ticking noise.. always ticks on warmup. sometimes in spurts.. Like 8 fast ticks then stops for 2 seconds then 8 ticks.. so on and so on.
I see plenty of ppl saying this is normal.

I heard it's coming from injectors though don't know if that is the case

yeah they said the injectors for the n54 engine are at a MUCH higher psi then a normal engines..thats the explaining they gave me lol

It's the injectors. They are noisy on the N54/55, as most high pressure injectors are noisy. Listen to ///M motor and you hear the same. (S85, S54, etc.)

It's normally the injectors on our cars. The only time you should be worried is if you rev the engine and the tick gets louder.

I had a tick prior to my 3 injectors been replaced and now the tick is gone... not sure if it's the same case. Another thing I can hear VERY loud on very cold mornings is the flapper on my muffler closing... lol

Same here , altough mine does also a slightly louder knocking noise as well which goes off when i press on the clutch but comes back when i release the clutch pedal - anyone experieced it ?

Ticking for N55 also, but I can hear it inside my car sometime. Very noticeable outside tho.

I've noticed it on mine at startup as well, but it's pretty faint.
