Got the car back thankfully and have asked the tyre place to pay the full BMW bill. If they refuse will contact Fair Trading etc.

Would love to post the name of the tyre place but feel it may not be in my best interests at this time....

You will need the location - I had suffered damage to my 18's on my WRX (blown tyre, bent rim, cracked rears) 80km/h over a 3in deep, 4in wide rut across the road...(rainy night, did not see it in time to slow down.)

VicRoads put me onto the local council who put me onto the Water board who found the guy that was doing the works and insurance co sent him a bill for $6K.

It's always hard persuing the council, plus the burden of proof is on you.

As per my previous post (see last page), i'd look into persuing BMW using the evidence around selling rims not suitable for use on Australian roads & inferior rim construction, given there is a basis for this and people have successfully gone down that path in Aus & the UK.

Tyre guy wants the wheel looked at by a third party, which I have agreed to. Picking up the rim tommorrow but from those pics it looks to me like brutal removal techniques were the main reason for failure.

Will find out soon, tyre guy has agreed to pay the full BMW bill if they find the same thing as BMW. If they say its just a pothole I will accept its my problem...

BMW told me that with the marks and excessive scratching on that rim they will not cover warranty. Tend to agree with them.

Hey Gumball,

Saw you rim today at the dealer.
Man it looks bad in the flesh.
but how would incorrect fitment cause that huge crater in the rim?

Cause the scratching doesnt appear to be related to the crater.

Got rim back today, I am now unsure if BMW are correct after chatting with another mechanic. He thinks I was very very unlucky and hit something weird OR its a fault with the wheel. He things the Tyre Place is innocent....

Take them to task on the info i posted on the previous page & you should be able to get them to do it under goodwill.
