SLeK 1M / 135i M3 Style Hood Teaser

Well since you guys keep asking me about the hood here is a small teaser to tide you over until next week when official pictures on a car will be released.

The designer that works on SleK's pieces looked at all the hoods on the market for the E82 platform and he saw what was out there. He didn't want to just imitate another hood on the market and he wanted to come up with something subtle yet aggressive and this is what he came up with. As you can see he put the M3 power bulge but then he also made the lines on the side more aggressive to match the power bulge and the lines of the car.

I have faith in SLeK's designer that it will look amazing.

Because of their trunk and front lip already on my car, I get flagged down weekly by other motorists asking if I have the new 1M(I should just say yes to make things easier) or where they can buy the Carbon pieces to put on their 3 series lol.

Looks sweet. Will there be an option for M3 style honeycomb vents? Thats the look I'm going for. This looks more like the Active E hood

So sick looking.

Definitely would like the vents but i think this one will do just fine. Much better looking than the VIS imo, or any other hood ive seen for the 1 series.

Color Matched AW =

I will see if SleK can add the M3 honey comb vents but you have to remember the lines on this hood are more aggressive on the sides and towards the windshield as the picture shows. Maybe the designer thought the M3 vents wouldn't flow with the aggressive side lines? I don't know but I will check to see if SleK can offer a different version with those vents in there for you guys.

I honestly like the subtle power bulge + aggressive lines. I was never a fan of the vents because they are either made not functional or functional and then you have to worry about rain gutters and engine upkeep and etc.

Good points about the vents. I think this one will look great and might flow better without the vents now that i think about it.

I hope they make the option available to us.

If the vents are done right they should be able to open and close from the underside.

I think iCarbon either had completely open vents or completely closed vents.

It would definitely increase the cost to put some kind of easy closing and opening mechanism on the inside of the hood I would think. Unless you go the cheap route of rain gutters but then that becomes a pain since I think you have to use tools to remove or put them back on which sucks.

I will definitely ask about the option for you guys though but then they would have to decide what to do with the vents. Functional or none functional and if functional what they can do to protect the engine during water/rain and etc.

The icarbon hood vents allowed you to do this, it was a very cool feature. I think the OEM M3 hoods do too. Hopefully Slek can do this for us. Also, any price estimates?

Do you have a link showing the mechanism that iCarbon used? So I can show it to them when I bring it up.

I don't know pricing but from what I was told it should be like the SleK trunk which will be close to the iCarbon trunk pricing. So judging from that I would assume it should be close to iCarbon hood MSRP. It will also be offered double sided carbon or single sided so of course double will be higher in price. Honestly I think no one knows pricing yet since only one hood has come out of the mold.

I only ask because if the price is too high and someone wants this exact look they will get the Active E hood which is OEM fit and quality, of course without any weight savings.

Unfortunately I don't have a picture of the iCarbon hood but I imagine it would function the same way as the OEM M3 hood though. I do remember someone showing me their M3 hood and there is a small latch that opens/closes from the inside.

This hood looks nothing like the Active E hood. I have seen the Active E in person at the LA Auto show and the bulge is extremely huge and hideous. It is not like the M3 bulge at all. Anyone who puts the Active E hood on our car will think twice once they see it. That hood's bulge extends really far side to side which makes it really bad on a small hood. Also even if you wanted to, you can't get the Active E hood, it is restricted by vin # on ordering any Active E parts.

I was asking about iCarbon in particular because I do not remember anyone stating that iCarbon had a built in mechanism. They either offered a open vent hood or a closed vent hood. Or you could change the vents yourself to either the closed or open ones. But I can be proven wrong which is why I wanted a link if anyone can provide one. You could be thinking of the stock M3 vents which like I said would probably be a very costly option to replicate.

Here is a thread of someone who got the hood asking about the same issue:

I'm sure Harold will do that with his AW 1M so then everyone can see how it can look color matched.

No plans for the vents at this time, but certainly possible down the road depends on the demand.

Yes, that is what we plan to do with the SleK parts for the 1M.

Vents would be nice but the hood looks pretty aggressive based on the pics. Def more aggressive than my iCarbon hood with the vents!
