Dash without I-Drive?
Do we have a photo of how the dash will look without I-Drive? I have seen a few that look like a bin with a lid, but maybe that is the I-drive folded down (as it looks like it might do) or maybe that is just for Europe. I would prefer a clean un-interrupted dash like the 3-series without I-drive.

You get a storage hole with a lid. The X3 is the same way.

Integrated? Just keep it in the glove compartment and set it up, on road trips when your going to need nav. There is no way I am ordering iDrive or BMW's NAV, becasue a $500 tom tom, Garmen, etc is better, portable and when the car is 5 years aold, I will always have a modern Nav system. Even if I sell that car! Secondly, If you don't get NAV, then there is nothing on the dash. There are several picures of this. |

there is another thread about this with pictures. basically there are two versions of photos of non-idrive 1ers. one type shows a smooth dash and the other type shows a pocket with lid for storage. In some countries the pocket is an option. AFAIK, it is unclear at the moment which will be offered in the US. If I had to guess I'd say no pocket but what do i know.

I believe the US models get a pocket. It would be cheaper for BMW if they did do it this way.
...but I'm not sure either

I sat in a used Z4 last weekend and the popup nav had actual buttons on both sides of the screen to raise and lower it. I dont see those in this application.
It actually looks cleaner here. |

The dash looks much smoother without the chunky I-drive screen sticking out. I will not opt for the I-drive, and if I really need a navigation system, I'll get the highly-praised Tom Tom device. |

There is no way BMW would dig and clean up the dashboard for free  Anyways, it was already proven by Jobes @ BMW Canada that the dashboard will be clean, so there's is nothing much to discuss about. I do want that option for US models, though. |

Well, new info from the canadian BMW (and an informal test drive) describes and has a photo of a 135i without I-drive with a smooth uninterrupted dash - no bin. I think it looks really good.
http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2077 A good read with lots of good pics. Thanks to Jobes the original poster. |
