New to BMW with new 2012 135i ("first 2012 1-series to touch american soil")!
Hello all,
I'm excited to be here and join the BMW ownership family. I'm really looking forward to learning a lot more of the brand and of course my car from here and driving it. As well as contribute to whatever I can. I hope to meet many of you fellow owners and join in on several gatherings/meets. I'm mostly coming from a 2007 Subaru STi. (I had two versions, first one a dd I purchased new in 2007 and another, later, a race/track STi I bought from a good friend i meet in the www.iwsti.com forums). It was hard for me to let those go and let alone leave Subaru. In fact, if it wasn't going to be the 135i, I would have gone for a new STi. But ever since the release of the 135i, I've always had it in the back of my mind with a keen interest in it. It got to the point that I had so much work on my last STi that I felt it was time for a change. I didn't have time for any kind of racing which I thought I'd be getting myself into. And mostly, I was just really missing some luxury and comfort in my rides due to the very high mileage of driving I do annually. I was also tired of the common immature boy-racer image in the subaru despite its impeccable performance and reliability. So between the new STi and the 135i, I felt BMW would offer and satisfy me for what I was currently looking for more than the subaru. I feel so very strongly dedicated towards subaru after how well it's treated me that I'll always be leaving the future possibility for fitting one into my life somehow such as later considering a used daily winter beater. I'm hoping I will feel the same from BMW and tickle at the idea of obtaining and always continuing a SUBARU-BMW ownership relationship as having a subaru daily driver and a bmw weekend ride while upgrading models as I go along. Anyway, on to why I'm here! 2012 BMW 135i -6 Speed MT -Black Sapphire Metallic -Black Boston Leather -M Sport Package -Premium Package -Heated front seats -Navigation System -Satellite Radio -Harmon Kardon SRS -Scotchguard Clear Bra Very long story as short as I can make it, (and i'll go more in depth in my dealer review for anyone interested), I went from trying to locate one similar as a 2011 back in early January. Dealer found two. Put a deposit down. One became sold before my local dealer could get it in. The other actually ended being different from what I specified. So finally, an order went it (early february). Production was delayed due to transition of 2011 to 2012. Once it started, my local dealer notifies me of the year change BMW made that came as a complete surprise for the dealer and myself since the order went in as a 2011 and no knowledge of 2012 release was known. Arrived to port, and dealer declares, based on BMW, that it's the very "first 2012 1-series to touch American soil." Thus, all 2011's prior would have to go through EPA before mine would be able to. So, EPA was delayed for my vehicle while it sat and waited for 3-4 weeks first in the 2012 BMW import lineup. Transport was delayed about a week. (Thus, unfortunately, I wasn't the first owner to take delivery of a 2012 1-series, given a thread I found on here of a fellow 2012 owner who was able to take deliver of his before me, from the dealer since it hadn't arrived). Finally went in to dealership, signed documents then only to notice the VIN # was different on the documents then on the actual car (due to the change of the initial 2011 vehicle put into the system). So another delay for the correct documents to be drawn up and signed. But FINALLY, I was able to drive it home. And I must say, even with only a 45 minute trip home, that it was WORTH THE WAIT! I LOVE THIS DRIVING MACHINE...

sorry for the delay in pics. (running all over this past weekend due to the holiday and such).
but just before the weekend, I had the tint done. I also ordered my black grill from TMS and installed them as soon as they came in. next up will probably be a spoiler and then wheels later in the summer. for now tho, it needs a detail!

Thanks! And believe me, I have indeed seriously considered it. But for the money and for what I was particularly looking for, it wouldn't have been worth it for me. It's my very first BMW so I wanted to get the feel of owning and driving a BMW car for what it is rather than go for the full blow m model. I didn't see it worth the money for only an extra 30 hp and some cool aesthetics of which I can eventually save up for and do all myself down the road to my own unique liking and still probably save some money. Not only that, but I'm an entry-level college grad living and working in the northeast coast. So other than my funds being limited, daily driving a 1m wouldn't necessarily be practical. And I also love to ride. I have a 2008 KTM 690 SMC which I take out quite often (in fact pretty much always) whenever the weather permits. I'm also looking to purchase a used dd (as mentioned above considering another subaru). So would it be worth sacrificing my passion for riding my bike by getting rid of it for a 1m? Would it be worth not being able to get a dd for the brutal harsh winter northeast coast months? All in the name of having a 1m which I would have to be daily driving. And the answer, personally for me, is no! lol. It's still a 1! And I mean it all comes from personal preference for various personal reasons. Perhaps maybe to you, it would be worth it even after all those sacrifices and considerations. But to me, it's simply not. Although I must say, pending on how everything goes with this first BMW of mine (and with a positive outlook on that), I will certainly consider an m (most likely an m3) as a nice weekend/track car at some point in the future hopefully!

^ Not to mention, I was also a little impatient with trying to get into a 135i as soon as I was able to which lead me to search for a 2011 not knowing anything of the 2012 release (as stated above) and with the notion that I'd only be able to get into a 1m around May or June. So with that, and the once in a lifetime deal my local dealer offered to me that I was really unable to refuse and of which many you wouldn't believe, I had to go with it in making the order for my 135i. And lo and behold, it became a 2012 with the same initial deal respectfully honored. So in all, it really worked out for the best that this 135i was meant to be for me!

You mind taking a picture of the lights on, I want to see those eyebrows. BMW's website has plenty of pictures, but they don't have that real-world look to them.
