Has anyone replaced there shark fin with a CF one?

I thought about it awhile ago but decided not to pull the trigger. There is another thread I think I started that had a site that sells a cover or replacement for it.

Is the shark fin on our rooftop some sort of antenna to pick up radio signals?

I am also tempted to change to CF ones.

apparently the cover may reduce reception/signal strength.
