Cams not a popular mod?

Cams must not be a popular mod for BMWs, because I can't even find a YT video showing a BMW with cams, much less a 135i with cams. Main reason I'm asking is that american V8s with cams sound damn good, and BMW I6 sound damn good too, so BMW I6 with cams must sound damn good? I'm on the road a lot, and I'll hear a Mustang GT, Camaro, or Cadillac with aftermarket cams and it makes my earholes moist, then I start to wonder what my already beast 135i would sound like with cams, but I get no such satisfaction. Why is that?

On a turbo car, a camshaft mod would be fighting for business from people making drop-in turbos that perform better for less. The market would be limited to the few people who were running truly big turbo kits and wanted that final icing on the cake.

Camshafts can only do so much on a turbo due to high backpressure, which limits how much overlap can be run.

N/A BMW i6's sound beastly with cams and ITBs. on our F/I cars, I really have not seen any or any company that produces cams for the N54/N55 platform.

V8s sound good with a cam swap (Chevy/Dodge) or cams (Ford). They sound good from a idle but you won't truly hear them while they're cruising along, thats the exhaust setup right there.

The old pushrod engine makes a lot of power from a cam swap. Anywhere from 30rwhp (baby cam) to 80rwhp and more but then you lose drive ability as it gets too choppy and wants to be up in the RPM range to make power.

People say its a hassle for our cars but I just don't think there would be much of a benefit the more I think about it. Our cars are kinda of like the modular V8s in Fords. You swap them out for a little more power but then pay thousands for that little change while a pushrod cam is a few hundred and makes way, way more power.

There are specific cams for FI (supercharged, turbo and nitrous) and N/A. You can also talk to a company about making a custom grind but since no one wants to do that then its just a lot of trail and error to get it right.

If it's the sound you are after then the ppk comes close on warmup and off throttle deceleration. Once warmed up though it won't replicate the sound you might be after when idling.
