CIP 20 just installed

I just had my car into the dealer last week to fix some bluetooth issues on my E-90 with the Razr. They installed CIP 20 and tested. Didn't fix my issues with bluetooth but they are still investigating.

Its a different quality

Our "old" diesel used to contain up to 3000 parts per million sulphur

Our new regular diesel only contains up to 500 parts per million, and the best we can get is 50 parts per million

i believe the USA diesel is worse than 3000 parts per million , and this is part of why BMW doesnt have diesels in the USA, because they are sensitive to diesel quality. Ive heard this will change in the next few years in the USA for the better

Does the software update allow:

Does software update allow for making the clown nose blink upon lock on an E90 without the alarm installation?

Correct. Starting in 2007, EPA (the US goverment environmental regulator) has mandated the transition to "low-sulphur" diesel. The delay is because much of the commerical fleet has to be retrofitted to burn it.

It's still questionable whether or not this change will make manufacturers able to meet the more stringent emissions requirements of California (and the northeastern states, mine included) which requires tougher-than-Federal emissions controls.

DCX offers a Jeep Liberty SUV with a diesel in the US today, but it cannot be registered in CA or the other states using CA regulations.

Plus, diesels have a very hard marketing problem to overcome in the US. Many US drivers see them as noisy, hard to start in cold weather and smelly.

For my part, I don't like an engine that redlines at 4000rpm. I owned an S2000 before my E90 and once you drive a car that redlines at 9000rpm, you can't go back. (Now about that M5 V10 that redlines at 8K....)

I think that problem has virtually disappeared due to the lack of noisy smelly diesels (from the 1960s and 1970s really).

I think most drives in the States just are ignorant on the topic.

How is that possible in NA. CIP 20.00.00 is released in November 05, then followed by 20.00.01 in December 05. I agree that NOW it would be all inclusive but would it not have been possible to have been upgraded in the time between these two releases to just .00 necessitating a new update to get the .01 fix?

Progman 20 (CIP20) was only realeased in Germany in mid December and the USA only got it in January

The .01 update was par of the original update for the dealers SSS. They had to install .00 then .01

The November update to that document was for extra fixed features they added to the CIP 19 list

Thanks. Now then I see that the Target Data Status is different between the two versions. Isn't that how the Service center really knows what is in the vehicle? I understand then that they could be different (for ROW) but then as u say only the later would show up in a USA (or NA including Canada?) vehicle? Just trying to make sense of the system.

I got the car back earlier this evening from having CIP 20 installed. Keep in mind though that my car is a Euro spec diesel with Business Navigation. The differences:

1. The engine seems a little quieter. It used to have this pronounced rattle when cold (different to the distinctive diesel sound), but when it warmed up it disappeared. Now it doesn't happen at all. Maybe they did something else and it's not related to software, but who knows.

2. Shifts are smoother in all 3 modes and both DS and M seem to shift a little quicker as well. But then again, it might just be my perception.

3. iDrive is now crashing. But I think this is due to the fact some module somewhere didn't take or wasn't compatible with CIP 20. My service advisor said it may not be a problem, but has ordered the new part anyway. So when it arrives, I'll take it back and have them install it.

4. iDrive is definately faster. There is no lag moving between menus anymore and it seems to access the DVD much quicker. It also seems to calculate the route much quicker as well.

5. No idea about MP3 because I had that functionality already and now I just use my iPod.

6. The service requirement for the diesel particle filter (at least, that's what I think it is) changed from 200,000km to 190,000km.

At the moment those are the only differences I can think of between whatever version I had before it went in and the CIP 20 update. When I get that new module installed I'll post again and see if anything has improved/changed.

That's what happened to mine, every time I started the car in the morning. Then after a little while the brake pedal would be stiff in the morning too, I could hardly get it to start. They've had the car for 2 weeks waiting for stuff from Germany to get 20 to download. They keep trying but it never works, just crashes.

E90Fleet, is there a way of checking what version I have in my '05 330d?
Can you walk into any SA dealership and ask them to upgrade the software or do you have to have some sort of issue?

Any idea which are the better mobile phones to use with E90 bluetooth so that the phone pairs properly and transfers the phonebook etc?

Hey E90 Fleet,

I took mine to Forsdicks Sandton...they upgraded software to Progman 22.
This was done last week.

Would CIP 22 = Progman 22 ?
