Pfft ETS running more moost? Now I've heard everything

Totally agreed. This is second only to HPFP panic in terms of overstated.

It just seems like backward thinking to me. If you've already made the decision to modify your car, a bit of trimming isn't going to change anything, especially when you can't see it.

I wouldn't hesitate if it was the 135i.

People see a new car as an entity, not as a collection of parts that can be replaced at any point in time.

So trimming to fit an aftermarket intercooler will reduce the integrity and wholeness of the new car, rather than a minor action that nobody will ever notice and that can be reversed at any time if so desired.

That's true. At the end of the day the 1M is a collectable and only a few are here in Australia. Years from now finding an original 1M will be like finding a original E30 M3 or 2002. I guess there is always the option of ordering a replacement plastic shroud to keep as a spare but it wouldn't technically be an original part.

I was under the impression it attaches to the bumper (or something else) that makes it more expensive to replace the whole part?

Agree. I had to trim very little but while I was at it I decided to cut all of the bumper support plastic as it doesn't really serve much purpose and looks much cleaner behind the mesh IMHO.

Edwin,

Given there is so much discussion about your ETS IC being the best, do you mind if I undertake some independent testing?

Perhaps I can swap my STOCK intercooler for your ETS? Will need the ETS for approximately 1 year given the extensive testing routine I will be going through.

Thanks
Paul

It's a bit of plastic shroud that sits between the bumper and FMIC.

Here is a pic of what I trimmed. Like I said before I didn't need to trim 90% of the plastic but the hacking was fun and neatly done.

Sure Paul. Annual Rental of my ETS is only $770. Install and removal is an additional $500. Please see the PDS for Terms and Conditions.

Thanks for the pic Edwin, it really shows how insignificant the plastic trim really is.

I have to say, the HPF fmic with it's much deeper core (deepest and biggest core on the market btw) looks way tougher sitting right up against the grill though

In that is a replaceable part - I am happy to cut away . I thought Harold said it wasn't. Just need to order it now - unless if you want everything to be original, order a replacement part and cut that .

Yes I remember enquiring about it a long time ago through HPF. Like most OEM things, you will probably lol at the price of what it sells for.

ETS is great for those that want to make moderate power from their N54. The HPF is meant for the big boys

That's it exactly! When you read "hacking OEM support panel" you think the worst. When you see what that means in real life up on a hoist, you quickly realise it's all bullshit.

Nobody would ever know it had been modified unless they had it up on a hoist, partially disassembled and had an unmodified one right next to it to compare to!

And if you want to be anal about it, you replace the modified (trimmed) part with a brand new replacement part and it's like new.

Totally overstated in true US forum style.
