E87 Wheel Offset / fitment
Hi all,
I'm looking at getting some wheels for my 130i and I'd just like to see if anyone knows if there would be any clearance/rubbing issues... My current set up: Suspension: stock M-sport Wheels: BMW Style 208 7.5x18” et49 205/45 18 (Front) 8.0x18” et49 225/40 18 (Rear) I'm thinking of getting some new wheels: VMR VB3 8.5x18" et40 225/40 18 (Front) 9.5x18" et45 255/35 18 (Rear) I am pretty sure these wheels & tyres will fit on the coupes E82/E88 alright, but I'm not 100% certain if the hatches E81/E87 will have any rubbing or not, particularly in the rear? Might I need to go with a 245/35 rear tyre? Does anyone have anything to add? Any experiences? Thanks! |

Perfect
Vmr v701 here I have 8.5 et45 front, with 225.. rubs a tad at full lock. Youll need i tiny bit of camber though My rear is 9.5 et45, with 245's... bit stretch lol .. easy 10mm clearance (could fit a 265) - your 255 choice will be perfect |

I can take a photo of my et45 225 if you like? Et40 for rear will be safer with 245, 255 may be pushing it a bit.. |

I am running 18x8 ET 35 fron and rear. At the front it used to rub slightly before removing the alignment pins, at the rear they can rub too but it is easier to dial a bit more camber and you're fine. However, 18x8.5 ET 35 is way to much based on my experience but my car is lowered, may be with stock height you may get away with it.

I assume we're talking about rubbing with unrolled guards, correct? Anyone had their guards rolled? I was planning to get something close to the following specs + guards rolled just in case...
Orig: 17x7 ET47 17x7.5 ET47 Can't remember tyre specs but they're super thin. 205/50 and 225/45? To: F: 18x8.5 ET35 225/35 R: 18x9 ET40 255/35 or 18x9.5 ET45 255/35 |

front (18x8.5) offset to be +45 rear (18x9.5) offset to be +50 This offset is the perfect one for the 1 series. There will be no rubbing if you get these offset with 225 front and 255 rear even with lowered suspension. However, with those tyre size and rim width, depending on what tyres ur getting, this is a chance the lip of the rim protrude out further then the tyre by like 3mm. The tyres are by no mean over stretched though.

My car is lowered on coilovers, quite low in the front actually. My guards are not rolled, and won't rub even with 4 people in car.

I've had the inner kip of guards tucked on other cars, I avoid pulling the guards due to resale. VMR are very heavy wheels, I wouldn't run them. IIRC apex wheels are 70% of the weight for similar design and size. I want to see 18x9+40 all round, not a fan of staggered fitment. -R |

Also, I was thinking of going staggered because I have a staggered setup now (205 front, 225 rear from factory) and that will keep a similar balance rather than the front gaining more grip relative to the rear (if I were to go to a 8.5" 225 square set up)? |

a quick google has vmr v701 at 24lb in 18".. So yeah pretty freakin heavy! Most of the wheels i'm lookin to upgrade to are <20lb in 18's >_< (18*10) 225 rear is too narrow imo though (even 245 isn't quite perfect, depending on the tire you use of course) be good to get a 245 front>_< |

Do you get less understeer on square because it's easier to oversteer?
I would probably go square but the rims are factory so I'd rather go as wide as possible on the front and rear for maximum traction without spending money on rims.

So I had a slow leak puncture fixed today and I'm told I need new rubber within a month or so.
I have stock rims on my 130i and I need to know what size to get as I want to go wider but don't want to put the speedo out. I currently have F 215/45-18 R 225/40-18

I don't know what your stock rims are but people seem to be able to put the 135i's 264Ms on there which are shod with 215/40R18 and 245/35R18 respectively. If your widths are in line or at least similar with what we have on our 135i's you could try for that. FYI, we have 18x7.5 in the front and 18x8.5 in the rear. If you have at least an 8" in the rear I'm sure you could probably fit 245s. |

I bought new APEX EC-7 wheels.
18x8.5" et 45 (F), x9.5"(R) et58 Tyres are 225/40 (F) 255/35(R) The 255/35's on the rear now are about 2mm (sweet FA) smaller diameter than the 225/40's (which I now have on the front) and will make even less than negligible difference to your speedo. Fitment wise the wheels/tyres are great. |

Bit of a thread dig but found some lovely E46 M3 18s for sale and want to ask about specs. My reserach suggests they are:
Front Wheels: 18" x 8" Offset = ET47 Rear Wheels: 18" x 9" Offset = ET26 From my understanding the fronts will fit but the rears may be pose an issue without rolling the guards. Can anyone suggest otherwise or should I keep looking... Cheers P.S. I don't own a 1-er yet but am very close to picking up a MT 130i

Might be possible if you want to run a skinny tyre and a heap of camber, but traction is always good to have on a 1er IMO |
