OT : Ferrari California clocked at 231kmh in WA!! Who said life was slow over here!

http://www.smh.com.au/national/ferra...0713-dim2.html

"Police have impounded a rare Ferrari California - one of only two in Australia - after its driver was allegedly clocked driving at 231km/h through the West Australian Wheatbelt.

Sergeant Greg Lambert said the rare red sports car had been recorded travelling more than twice the legal limit when spotted by police just before noon today.

Sergeant Lambert said the Ferrari's 57-year-old male driver would be charged with reckless driving.

"Just because a car is worth a lot of money, it doesn't give the driver any better road sense," he said.

The $470,000 Ferrari has been impounded for 28 days and towed to a police receival unit in Perth."

Thing is..he was being passed by a 135i (just joking)

The thing is that for a Ferrari, 231 km/h would just be a slow canter. If the road was dead straight, with good visability and deserted, it probably wasn't as dangerous as is made out to be. I can't see anyone owing a performance car (1er included) not exceeding the speed limit by a substantial margin once in a while. These cars have been designed for speed after all.

Of course the law is the law and Mr Ferrari was still breaking it...... I just feel a bit sympathetic.

Did you hear that he's supposedly a motoring journalist? So reported on TV news tonight, including his name, so it must be true. Naughty boy.

Rod Easdown - I've read his articles (mainly in Melb Weekly), and to be perfectly honest they are all $h!+. The guy has no clue about cars so it is no surprise he'd do something that stupid....just amazes me that they let idiots like that test drives cars. Hope it ends his career..... bit hard to road test cars if you can't drive them on the road!

Ditto... he is a journalist then he will know a venue to test the top speed of the car, ie. race track. Anyone does that on public road is not on. I feel sympathy of the bugs he collected on the red Ferrari during the adventure - coz they worth more than the driver himself .

Having said that I will kill anyone to suggest a 40kmh limit around my area.

well he did make an effort to do it away from civilisation.... there is SFA surrounding perth, unlike melbourne or so.
But 30mins out of perth and you're on narrow 2-way roads doing a 100 limit, which is far more dangerous than 100 on the freeways....
Drove from Melbourne to Sale for the 3rd time yesterday and almost all the way you've got 2 lanes in each direction, nice.

I suppose, but still...

I think the fellow journists will be quite upset since they are also lined up to test this!

You've gotta wonder - what global financial crisis???

The news article says there are 200 Ferrari Californias on order in Australia. For a population of a mere 21 million, that's a high number!

Yeah, I thought that too. Sounds like an optomistic figure to me.

On the other hand, an average dude only earns $88K a year. That hardly can afford an average home and internet and let alone a prancing horse~!

http://content.mycareer.com.au/salary-centre/

I think if I don't have to pay tax in my salary... I am tempted to get a supercar

Even worse then!

I think somehow they underestimate. The average wage of a surgeon is way over $200K. If it is taxable income then well... it may be true

There are more kids working in Fast Food joints around the place than there are surgeons!!!
and you are right ... the surgeon probably does a bit more to minimise his tax ...

"Pack to the Rafter" theory is very true...

I am prepared to kick my kids out when they are old enough and start earning a cent. Of course, with daddy's help buying them a place to live
