Rear Ended while at the gym
I was at the gym around 11pm. I always park way out in the boondocks because I don't like parking near anyone if I don't have to. When I got to my car I saw a note on it and found out someone rear ended me and they left their phone number. I'm not sure if you can tell in the picture, but this is a large parking lot with plenty of space. I still can't believe this happened.
More pictures in the album here: View post on imgur.com Anybody have any experience with something like this? I'm going to check it out in the morning and take more pictures, then try and buff it out. Some of the marks look pretty deep. I don't want to get my insurance company involved unless I have to.

That sucks but at least be glad they left a note. Most people wouldn't.
Contact your insurance company and call the person, put your insucance company in touch with their insurance company.

Looks like they clipped you as they were pulling in/out of the parking space. Hard to tell how bad the damage was. I would at least get an estimate.

There are good people in the world! Accidents happen and luckily you were hit by the one person responsible enough to leave a note. (Hope it's not a fake number )

That is likely more costly than you think. Get your insurance involved. That's why you buy the insurance, so you don't have to deal with annoyances like that.

Why do people do that ??
You go out of your way to park your car in the back 40 so nobody messes with/ dings it, and some a$$ always parks right beside you ?? WTF Sorry, rant off.

Even though they left a note it still sucks to be in that situation.

Thanks for the advice guys. I took it to a local reputable body shop. The estimate came to $496. Full bumper repaint. I told them to not worry about the diffuser since I'll be purchasing a new one soon anyways. It's a $74 part and it only has a small scratch.
Here's the estimate from the body shop: View post on imgur.com part list I won't need but just for curiosity's sake: E82 135i M REAR BUMPER TRIM I've been in contact with the other party via email so hopefully he comes through.

That's shitty, at least they left a contact #!
What I'd do is, get some estimates, my buddy has a body shop, the same thing happened to me awhile ago. It cost about $500 cash for that same sort of damage. Or... Call insurance and shop around for the best place around you and have them do it, or refer to BMW to see who they use. My suggestion anyways. Good luck have a better day! Oops, didn't read your latest post. |

A $500 job? There's definitely no reason to get insurance involved at this point. Hopefully the other party will come through and not try to find a shop with a better estimate.

$500 seems very reasonable. I had similar damage, but yours looks worse, and it was about $750 to fix but I had my diffuser painted. Fortunately, it was a co-worker who hit me and he just paid cash.
I bet they were backing out from the spot opposite to you, did not look behind them because of the area you both were parked, and did not turn in time. That's what happened in my situation. |

This is a picture of the fat tank rental car I've been "driving" for the last 2 weeks: Dodge Charger. I couldn't be any happier to get my car back. I have a whole new level of appreciation for my car now. So my car was ready after a week, however when I went to pick it up, I noticed a chemical spill on my hood that would not rub out. I think it was brake fluid. So they had to repaint my hood and front bumper and I was stuck in the rental car for another week. I finally got my car back yesterday, but when I walked it I noticed the rear bumper was not sitting properly. It pops up on the left side by the license plate. The tech said they must have not seated it in the groove properly and it's an easy fix. I just have to bring it back in on Monday. I had them install the Rieger Rear Diffuser from ESE Tuning. I like the way it looks but I'm not sold on the finish. I asked them if they could paint it gloss black but they said they wouldn't be able to with that finish. I'll eventually buy a gloss black version but for now I'm just going to deal with it. I also had them paint and install Performance Side Skirts that I bought from Phil@Reeves.

Your rear bumper warped up like that is exactly what mine looks like now after getting it repaired after my car got rear ended. Weird. I'll have to have them take a look at it. Never really bothered me too much. |
