I was told to put a BMW Assist number in my cell when I purchased the car. So calling this number if I decline to take the upgrade will result in a "you're own you own" response, ie no roadside assistance?

I'll be sure to test out the remote lock function once I get my car back! |

I don't profess to know everything BMW Assist provides from the car, but from what I know so far, this is what you'll be missing. No automated SOS where the car calls the call center to notify them you've been in a wreck. From my understanding, there is also some information sent up indicating the severity of the crash ie air bag deployment. No remote lock out feature. So if you happen to get locked out of your car, the call center won't be able to unlock the doors for you. No remote locking. You won't be able to lock the car from the mobile app if you are wondering if you locked the car after parking it. No GPS locator service. If you leave the car parked somewhere for a long duration, you can keep tabs on it to see if the car has been moved. No destination send to car so the nav system would get an automated upload of the destination you want to go to. No remote climate timer feature where you can pre ventilate your during hot summer months before going out to your car. |

Does anyone know if the Gracenote album info stuff gets OTA updates if you have BMW Assist? I know there's a HDD partition if you have iDrive for some data, but it seems to be more updated than what the dealer may update during services.

Got my car back finally! I haven't checked out all the features yet, but I did try out sending Google Maps directions to the car -- and it works without a problem. Also, and this is off topic, after riding in the X3 loaner for a couple of days and coming back into my 135is, it reminded me how much I despise electric steering. Hopefully the implementation of electric steering in the M2 is better since I have my eyes on it (though not for a few more years)....

I am guessing another feature you lose by not upgrading is the live traffic updates.

The only difference I've noticed with the 3g is that it doesn't take quite as long to "Send" a map location to the nav, everything else seems to work as normal.

I talked to BMWNA today and was told you will not get the live traffic updates without the retrofit.
One thing I was a little surprised at was the BMW Assist terminates with the full wtty. It does not go along with the CPO. So with my full wtty expiring relatively soon, it's a easy decision to take the compensation. I was never likely to spend the money to extend the BMW Assist. I didn't even know most of what it gave me. |

My BMW Assist has been deactivated and I still get traffic updates.

Hmm that is odd. I did buy the maintenance extension I wonder if it was included in that package?

I did confirm that roadside assistance carries thru the CPO wtty period. So if I'm within cell phone cover I can call on that. Smrtypants44 - are you sure that your BMW Assist is active thru your CPO period, or maybe whoever you asked was thinking roadside assistance? |

Hadn't tried it while it had a route. From the nav map screen, went to left menu and clicked on traffic and it showed me all the things in the area.
