XM Radio
Hello fellow 1ers. Does anyone know if I connected an XM Radio device to the rooftop antenna if I would actually be able to get service using that antenna? I located the pre-wiring in the trunk, and looked at the pinkish connector and connected it to the xmradio and it connected fine like it was ment for it. I have the Pioneer Inno, and my battery is dead on the unit so I couldn't test it out to see if it worked, so I figured I would ask someone here. If it doesn't work, maybe I could consider purchasing a sirius radio and seeing if that antenna would work for that unit instead of buying the bmw unit, and also to save on running wires all around the car.
Thanks in advance. Wayne |

According to the 3-series forums, this should work. I currently have my XM radio running through the aux port while I'm waiting for the SMB extension wire to arrive to test out the conenction with the sharkfin. Should know at the end of the week.

what is the smb extension wire? I was going to patch the audio into the aux in the center console. I have removed the back of the console and I think that there is connections there for something to do with the cellphone cradle but I didn't think that would work for the sat radio connection. Do you think it does?

All I had to do to find the wire was just remove the battery cover in that area and find the wires that were needed right in the back of the car closest to the rear seat. I know that in the center console if you remove the back of the console there is a similar connector there but I think it's only for the use of the antenna for a cellphone, not for satellite radio. Do you know where I can get a cable to run from the back of the car to the front, that has the right connectors on the ends?

That's the only thing that I would need, wow and I thought I was going to have to go out a purchase the bmw sirius unit lol. When is your cable suppose to be coming in. When you get it would you mind taking picture of the install, and let me know if you had to do anything to the cable at all to get it to fit.

OK so I was doing some research in the car. I remember taking the center console's back off and seeing an antenna connector in there. I looked further at in and saw that it looks like it's the same style of connectors that the xm or sat radio would use except it looks like it's male connector and I think we need a female connector. Does anyone know if they make an adapter of some sort to go from male to female? Here is a picture of the baqse of my pioneer inno that I'm trying to install. I was thinkging if we use that antenna wire in the center console it's a very short run to run any wires to the center of the car, and you don't need to worry too much about riping the car apart to bad.

08bmw128i I also have the pioneer inno and plan to install it in my 135i once i take delivery. From your post it sounds like you are running the antenna wire from the shark fin to center console? or the bmw radio?? is there any disadvantage to using the aux input for the inno car dock?

What I was going to try to do is instead of runing the wires from the trunk to where I wanted to mount the Inno, was to use the antenna wire in the center console. I know that the wire that's there is actaully for use with the cellphone cradle, but I was trying to see if anyone knew if there was an adapter that would work to make the two ends meet. See the inno cradle that's in the picture has the same end connector as the wire that in the console. I just went ahead an ordered the extension cable and will run the wires on Thursday if weather allows.

I just mounted my Sirius antennae on the rear parcel shelf, and ran the wire beside/under the rear seat to the aux port. It works great! With the rear window sun screen, you can't even see it from the outside.

I'm trying to get away from mounting any antenna's anywhere in or outside of the car. I will be using the sharkfin's satallite antenna that it has.

yeah with a nice integrated antenna already on the car running an extension wire will make for a nice clean install.. hey 08bmw128i where did you plan to mount the inno dock..i was thinking of placing it in the ash tray infront of the shifter..although I wont know until I have my car.. i dont like the idea of mounting it on the dash as weather changes will cause the mounting tape to loose adhesive.

When is someone going to make a plug and play thing like I had for the MINI? I had a Blitzsafe adapter. Wait. Maybe I should search first... Let's have a look around shall we?

With my basic searching it seems that maybe the adapter that I sold with my MINI would have worked, but no one lists it as compatible. All the lists are not updated to have the 1 on them if it works. Or they don't work...
