Thoughts on these tires?

Hey all,

I just got a set of VMR V710's powder coated in Satin bronze 18x8.5 ET45 and 18x9.5 ET 50. Planning on running 225/40/18 in the front and 255/35/18 in the back. I'm looking for tires to throw on them and came across these: General GMax RS.

https://www.discounttire.com/buy-tir...max-rs/p/43244

I know they're on the cheaper side, but the reviews across multiple platforms are unanimously good. Any thoughts? I live in Portland Oregon so I'll be driving in the rain and sun. I won't ever drive this car in the snow so I was going to get summer tires. Thanks!!

Do Firehawk 500 if you want cheap, or maybe the conti ec5 o think it is now. If you don't mind spending the money the MPs4S is amazing and absolutely worth the coin.

Most important thing on your car is the tires, never pays to skimp. Any of the above would be fine though.

+1.

The Firehawk are actually a pretty decent tire for the cost. Ran a set on my Corvette for awhile, and they lasted pretty well even though traction was an issue.

Much appreciated advice from you both; I'll likely go with these. How many miles should I expect on these tires with spirited daily driving?

Actually on second thought I'm likely gonna go with the General G Max RS because they handle better in wet and I live in Portland.

Firehawks seem a bit stiff and noisy. I had the old general uhps on a daily e36 and they were darned good. Just can't expect Michelin performance.

Gotcha. Will the Generals be OK in Portland where the temp can often drop below 45?

I don't know. Perhaps there's feedback from people in cold climates on tirerack? I'm in Socal where weather is seldom a concern.

I currently live in Portland and run the Conti ExtremeContact DWS on my E46.
I love them so far and have driven in all of our normal Portland conditions with no issues. They are great in the rain and grip decently in the cold. I've driven in light snow without too much issue, but its an open diff RWD car so its never great with snow or ice. They obviously don't have the summertime grip of a Michelin PS4S but I think the tradeoff is worth it.

I live in Portland and have the Firehawk 500 and love them. They handle great in the rain and hook up very well. I have found them to be extremely quiet especially compared to the original RFT. Now with that, I have never had a performance/summer tire that was any good below 60 degrees. So I switch to winter/snow tires which are squirrely as all get out, but what do you expect for skinny snow tires in the snow.
For the Firehawk, I went with 225/40 front and 255/35 rear.

Here's a good discussion on the Firehawks:
http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showthread.php?t=591023

Also though, found a review on tire rack of a guy going from Firehawks to the generals saying the generals were better and quieter.

I'm really leaning towards the $113 General rs 225/40/18s
