My first auto was the 7-spd in my SLK, and next, the DCT in my 135i. I now know I have been wasting my time with manual transmission in all my previous cars! Both units do a better job of shifting than I ever could. Also with my right hand always free, I can now scratch my nose or anything else whenever I care too.
I do see one great advantage to the DCT. The BMW fanboy whose only interest in life is getting off the mark as quickly as possible might get longer life out of the transmission? Unfortunately, it'll likely be very expensive to repair when it does break. For a conservative driver like myself, I don't expect any problems. Also BMW says the unit has a lifetime fill of synthetic oil. Finally, BMW says the MPG are 18->25, and I get 20 to 21, right in the middle. Hence I think the mileage claims you fellows are claiming are all hot air. |

DCT is smooth as silk shifting. Far better than my 04 e60 w/ ZF 7 speed.
