Yeah, I got yelled at by Clayton for driving through the structure too fast, but I couldn't help it - it sounds amazing in there above 1/2 throttle! No, I'm here, I'm here! I ended up taking the wife to Belle Isle for a chunk of the day since she endured the car stuff yesterday... She's not a very big fan of that stuff since she thinks I'm "obsessed" with them so I decided to pretend that I'm a good husband and took her out to do something she enjoys (walking through the conservatory). It wasn't so bad though because on the way home I shot up Gratiot and rolled through the cruise. I got a big smile out of an old guy in a Cutlass when I went WOT next to him and he got to hear the exhaust open up. Anyway, yes, fun times and I think we should definitely do it again. As-always, I'm up for suggestions! Clayton: Get a few of the pics linked here when you have a chance to edit them - I need a new wallpaper for my PC at home and work!

It was great to meet everyone and the cars.
It would be great to have more cars next time. Thanks, Jason for organizing this. Karting sounds great to me, definetly! I can't wait for pics.

Overall I would say the meet was a success! No problem, man. I arranged for a karting event once for the Subaru guys that Ryan and I still meet with. I'll probably wait until it starts to cool down though because it gets somewhat warm in the building (I went last weekend and was sweating like CRAZY) so it'll be more comfortable with a big group of us running.

Very cool!
I just spoke to Clayton and he's been editing the shots he took. With any luck we should see a few posted soon! While on the phone with Clayton I asked him about this too... It was probably him. Be very, very careful if you attempt to car jack this man - that's all I'm sayin'.

The helmet is acutally a motorcycle helmet, but it's M2005 rated, which is the minimum rating that this event requires. I'm happy with it, even if I do look like a lego guy with it on. |

And just to be safe you should consider looking in to some tires ASAP. Seems like the concensus is: 1 track day = 1 new set of tires. Obviously it depends on how fast you run, but the last thing you wanna be doing is driving down the expressway on a bald set of RFTs! Either way, keep us posted on how it goes!

yeah, i'm hoping they last until i get winters on. I guess i'll find out how bad they are!
It's my first time ever at the track, and i'm running with the novices, so maybe i'll survive with a little tread left. |

Speaking of, which winter tires do you plan to run? I'm guessing I'll pull the RFTs off to use as winter wheels and then depending on what's left of the tread and which wheels I buy for the summer transfer them until they're completely dead.

After driving Praveen's car the other day (which has the Dinan tune) I can tell you it's pretty traction limited in 1st, 2nd and even a fair bit of 3rd gear. This is on A/S 255s with a STEP tranny. My own car (stock tune, RFT tires and STEP) won't really rip the tires loose unless it's really being pushed... Praveen's car does so without any effort whatsoever. SO if you plan to run any kind of tune I'd probably consider running 255s at a MINIMUM for the summer. Oh and regarding the Dinan tune: Try to get out and drive a car with it. As-if additional power alone isn't a nice thing, the delivery is superb. I wish I had the spare $2000 at the moment because my car would be getting it installed ASAP!

Stocks are 245s, yes. And from what I've read it's pretty much impossible to run anything wider than 225s on the front without rubbing or the need to roll the fender...

i don't think i'm brave enough to use my stock wheels for winter. I'll probably get some 17s for that, and do the best i can on the stock wheels during the summer (255/225). This shit'll get expensive in a hurry.

I'm not overly worried about using the stock wheels for winter because there seem to be a lot of stock wheel combos popping up at what I feel are dirt cheap prices ($1000 for the wheels, TPS and <2000 mile RFTs!?). I'm tempted to start buying those sets and parting out the wheels, TPS and tires all separately. Shit, I've been tempted to do it just to get a set of TPS and tires (since I'll undoubtedly rip through these quickly) and then sell the wheels separately!
